2 years foundation training, then specialist training of about 7 years.

Mat leave is a statutory right - you can take it any time. Are you asking if you could take a year out between FP and ST? Of course you can. Although you would only get statutory pay for that time, as you wouldn't be an NHS employee. Also remember the implications for your pension.

You'd be better off securing a training place and then getting pregnant etc (I know, these things dont always go to plan).
