Hi, I am in high school and I have to do a research project about being a doctor. I was wondering if someone here would be able to answer a couple questions for me.
1.Name
2.What you like most about being a doctor?
3.What you dislike most about being a doctor?
4.How many hours do you work a week?
5.What was your opinion of medical school?
6.If you could start back from when your where in college, would you still choose to be a doctor?

Thank you to any one who can help!

I'll bite. Please do not FMFP the kid.

1: Edemer
2: In short everything! Specifically, the ability to make a significant positive impact in the lives of my fellow human beings.
3: Everything in medicine that has nothing to do with medicine. Stated differently, having medical decisions influenced by non-medical factors. (resource availability, customer service, litigation)
4: A lot. It's a life, not a job.
5: It is unfairly expensive!! Other than that, it has been the best four years of my life.
6: Everyday and twice on Sunday.

PM me with more specifics.

Why would you ask this in Emergency Medicine of all places? This research is biased!!! You only have a sample size of 1 so far, and it's not randomized. Jeeeezus, what are they teaching these kids nowadays? :meanie:

Maybe he's doing a "multi-center trial"🙄

If I recall, they do not really teach a good stats/ research methods combo in high school. I think the kid will have to get that later.😀

1) I'm not giving out my real name, sorry.
2) I like talking to reasonable parents. I like fixing kids, since usually whatever is wrong with them isn't their fault.
3) Kids who aren't fixable. Kids with stupid parents who, because the parents are dumb or misinformed or downright mean, never stood a chance. Kids who die because their parents are dumb. Kids who die because I'm not smart enough.
4) 32 hours of clinical (ie time in the ER) + 8 hours of other random crap, including meetings, papers, committees.
5) Medical school sucked. The first two years involved no thought whatsoever - just rote memorization. The second two years consisted of some learning (yay) mixed with endless scut; I just generally got **** upon by the residents. It wasn't the residents' fault, the culture at my med school was so freaking toxic they couldn't help it.
6) Hells, yeah. I love my job.
