Hi!

Berkeley is really a dream school of mine but I'm getting the sense that it is highly selective with its MPH programs' acceptances.

Those of you who have experience with applying to Berkeley, I'd love to hear about it! If you guys got in as well, what sort of experience/background did you have? I'll take all the help i can get =)

Thanks!

I think if you're in CA it's not so bad. Most people I've met are from CA, and a fair number are from small colleges in CA I've never heard of (so not just UCLA, etc.). I'm out of state and got in with <1 yr work experience. They really seem to look at your whole application, and if you have a decent GPA (esp. junior and senior year) and obvious passion with at least some sort of experience to back it up (volunteering or work) you should be good to go. The budget crisis in CA really is no joke and a lot of 2nd years I've talked to had a terrible time finding a paid summer internship, so I'd think twice about coming here if you're out of state and don't get a substantial scholarship. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the information! I am pretty sure that even if I do manage to get into a california school, I won't get much in the way of scholarships or aid so I have to definitely consider the expense aspect of it all. But it's so scary to think about! Haha

There are several great MPH programs in California:

UC Berkeley
UCLA
SDSU
Loma Linda

I'm sure that there are more out there.

UC Irvine now has a program as well.

Four of the five above allow you to pay in-state tuition.
