Hi, I was wondering what kind of clerkship grades, step scores, and other credentials will get you into a MGH, Columbia, McLean (top tier) psych. residency.

MGH/McLean is a single program. For the two programs you list (MGH/McLean in particular), where you went to medical school is a sizeable factor. Numbers in and of themselves are broadly variable. Honors in IM and Psychiatry are important. A defined interest in psychiatry with idea of where you want your career to go is also a good selling point.

I would also say that having some significant research experience, whether it's basic science or clinical, would be important. Step I scores will matter. They will also look at your personality - they are competitive enough that they can reject applicants who might have good numbers but who may not be so likable.

Thanks for the responses. What do you think would be competitive board scores and what would significant research generally include?
