Hello guys,🙂

I am not new here, but first time writing something to ask.

Let me introduce myself. I am a Texas resident and I live close to Ex-president George Bushee. HAHA.
majoring in Psyc with 3.65 whole GPA and 3.5 scicence and 3.3 in BCP😴

if you are going to texas d schools, please answer those quick questions.
and I say Thanks a million in advance.

I have been reading almost all the posts here, but I couldn't find any answer for that.

Q1😍. I know texas dental schools require us 14 hrs of bio..
I have been taking bio 1 and 2 and neuroscience and biomedical technology. are nero and biomedical classes considered as biology class?
or do I have to take other typical bio classes?:scared:

Q2. About letters of recom. Today, I actually talked to an advisor in my school and she said I need 5 recommendations for baylor, san antonio, and houston. and the recommantions have to be written from 1 bio professor, 1 chemistry, and 1 physic. Is it true? because it seems like she knows only basic about dental school admission.🙁

Q3. I am trying to write a personal statement in advance, so I can show it to profs because I am not close to them at all, but what's the topic? I spent hours to find it, but I am still here asking.😱

Q4. Today, I paid $320  to register for dat, and chose about 24 schools.
Do you think it is a lot to apply? I've already done researching, so I know what schools I am applying to and where I am more likely to be accepted.

Q5. I heard tx schools has different system. Do I need to use TMDSAS and ADA both to apply school?😕

Thanks a lot for reading this, and After taking DAT. I will definately write DAT break down since SDN has helped me a lot.:luck:

please please answer this thanks 🙂

Most of these questions can be answered on the TMDSAS thread. But I'll do my best to answer them.

Question one: You have to take your minimal courses. These can be found on the school websites. I think biochemistry is another science. And I may be mistaken, but we don't really do a BCP for TMDSAS, do we others? It's a science GPA and regular GPA. Your Biomedtech class would probably not be considered a science class but your psychs like neuro will.

Question two: WTF? Who told you that. I don't even know them and I want to step on their big toe or give them a piece of cake and then smack it out of their hands before they can take a bite. NO CAKE FOR YOU!!! You need 4 LOR's. Two profs (preferably science profs and, preferably, at least tenured or associate), one dentist (general), one from anyone (preferably someone who enhances you as an applicant. I'm assuming you got 5 LOR's by including your personal statement. If not, again, WTF?

Question three: Didn't write my PS. One of the benefits of being an Aggie with a committee that writes it for you. Basically you have to detail yourself in a expansive way that reflects yourself as an awesome applicant? I'm BS'ing. Don't know what the hell you're supposed to write but I might be close. I have no clue...I think.

Question four: What. Are you serious about 20+ schools? Do you have lots and lots of money. Then go for it. But if you don't want to break yourself, don't waste your money or time. I'd say stick with about 8 schools. The 3 Texas schools give you in-state advantage which is huge (think, almost 270 spots exclusively for Texans out of 280, and there are only 1000 in-state applicants so 1/4 isn't bad, right) and some of the neighboring dental schools like Arizona. But 20 is crazy, especially since your grades aren't that bad.

Question five: Texas is only TMDSAS if you are an in-stater.

Check the TMDSAS 2011 thread, rookie. And kick whoever told you about Q2 in the shin. But boy, oh boy, will I feel like a jackass if they're actually right.

With your GPA, I'd recommend applying outside of TX just to be safe, so you will apply through AADSAS and TMDSAS.

I would buy the 2010 ADEA official guide to dental schools (google it) and read the descriptions of all the texas schools, including their list of recommended courses. Taking additional science courses beyond the minimum 14 hrs will give you some advantage.

TMDSAS strongly recommends that you only submit 3 LOR (2 science + dentist), but you can submit a 4th optional from whomever. (I did submit a 4th from a community service supervisor).

TMDSAS gives a very specific list of classes that are considered science or non-science. (for example, psychology is not calculated in science GPA).

TMDSAS has a basic "describe your motives behind dentistry" essay along with 2 other optional essays i believe. I did not give my 2 professors my personal statement, but wrote them individualized letters each. In those letters I basically described how they helped me prepare for dentistry which indirectly gave the material to write on how they have seen that I am prepared for dental school. Approach them early on about the LOR and keep in contact with them. Talk to them about their research, and even consult with them on other classes. Stay on their minds, and remind them that you will drop by your letter of intent later on to help them with your LOR, and ask for it months in advance with occasional reminders of when you would like it by.

I would try to get a local friend who has already applied through TMDSAS. He can print off his entire application with all of the questions/prompts so you can start to gather the necessary info and write the essays.

thanks a lot for all the replies!!!!!!😍

I am thinking about getting 1 rec from physic professor, 1 from bio, 1 from dentist, 1 from psychology prof, and 1 for myself (personal statement)

total 5!!!

1.) What do you think? are those enough?😕😕

2.) I haven't finised my bio lab 1,2 and biochem for pre-req, and planning on taking them in upcoming sum and fall. Are those going to hurt my acceptance??

3.) one last thing... Am I allowed to see my letter of rec? if not, How am I supposed to upload it to my application?????
and Once I got letter of recommandations, what do I do? do I need to make about 20 copies to send schools???

4.) I am senior and taking only 1 psyc class to focus on DAT.. Does it look bad? the advisor who said about crazy recc said it's totally fine. but I don't trust her anymore.

I really don't know why the advisor said that I would need 4 rec from professors.
I want to argue with that soon.:meanie:

!!!!!!!!!

THANKS again really.. your replies mean a lot to me!!
thanks and God bless you all!!
thanks X 10000.
