Hey whats up everyone just a quick question here for clarification. So I had an earlier threas on having a low gpa through undergrad and having to raise it to get to a 3.0 for PT school. Well instead of that I am now just looking at schools that take the last 60.

My question is if you retake a class in that 60 credit window, do schools just typically look at the higher grade or just factor both grades in and average them out as a part of your 60?

You need to look on each school's website or the PTCAS website to see if they accept the higher grade or average both grades together. If you're still not sure, you can call/email each school.

Got you will do that. Also would it be frowned upon if I took majority of my last 60 credit hours at a Community College? Like taking some upper division classes.

No
That is perfectly fine.

I kind of a had this similar question. I think I know what you're saying. Schools such as UNTHSC and UTHSCSA take the higher grade of the repeated course for their prereqs, but does that mean they will take the higher grade of the repeated course for the last 60 hours? Like if I take had a course in my senior year with a C. Graduated, and retook the class at a CC and got an A, do they replace that C for the last 60 hours, then take another course to fill the 60 hours? Lol, idk if that makes sense...

Every school is different unfortunately. While some schools may take the higher of the repeated prereqs, they might take averages for the cumulative gpa. There are also some schools that only look at last 60 of undergraduate so if you went to a 4 year university, they'll look at the last 60 from there and not the classes you took after graduation. But some will just look at last 60 overall, no matter where you took them. What I have done is I've called up a bunch of schools and talked to them and figured out exactly what they look at, for pGPA and cGPA. Does that make sense? I know it's a bit confusing =/ but I'm in the same boat! 🙂

@DPTgal07 Yeah that makes sense! Lol, yeah I've understood that also, I just wanted to point out Texas schools specifically since I'm looking into those and not sure if they replace the retakes also for the cGPA as they do for their pGPA 🙂

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe most CCs have upper division classes. Here they are mostly 2 year schools where you go to do gen eds or in our case pre reqs which are mostly lower level. Also, if they do, and you haven't already graduated I would check into graduation requirements for your current 4yr Uni, I know mine had some pretty specific requirements for hours taken in residence toward graduation during my senior year, not just total hrs.

Oh that is very true. I guess what makes my situation a little unique is that I already have my bachelors although I graduated with a low gpa. So at this point my cGPA would not be a saving grace at all, I would be exclusively looking at school that take the last 60 and take it from there and hope for the absolute best.
