I've done the research on the Tuoro's website and some associated sites giving descriptions of Vellejo. However, I'm more interested in the housing situations and the quality of life outside realms of the medical school. Some more directed questions would be:

1) Would you become restless if you didn't have a car?
2) What is the nightlife like?
3) What is the cost of living around the medical school?

Any comments or criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

There's a thread for class of TUCOM-MI 2010 you should probably jump into... they've discussed all this and much, much more. There's a comprehensive list of apartment costs in there, too.

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=243600

Just to quickly answer your questions:

1) Yes and no. You need to get off the island to do just about anything. If you can get a ride to class, and pick where you live carefully... you can get by without a car.

2) The immediate area isn't anything to brag about. A couple neighborhood bars, Chili's, you get the idea. Your best bet is taking the 50 minute ferry to downtown San Francisco, if you're in the mood to party. Berkeley is 30 min by car.

3) It can really differ. California isn't cheap, but if you can share an apartment, housing shouldn't run you more than $500-$750 a month depending on your standards.

Thanks for the link. I got a lot of information from the thread. It only further solidifies why I want to go there. Thanks.
