Questions about UCSF?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those that received letters from UCSF, can I ask what the postmark date on the envelope was? I am having my mail forwarded and it takes a little more than a week from the postmark date to reach me, so I just want to know if I should keep waiting or if it isnt coming...

Thanks,

411.

bump

don't have access to my mailbox until after winter break! argh! 😛

I know my chances are slim being an out of stater, but I have been complete since 10/2, and haven't heard anything + or -. Anyone else in my same boat. Nothing is on the website, except that I am complete.

Anybody know if that next batch of letters has been sent out yet? 🙄

oh, you mean the really yucky ones and the still-some-room-for-hope ones? I haven't gotten any yet. I imagine they will be out this week though.

Has anyone talked to the adcom and know when they are sending rejections/WLs. I know, I know--I am obsessed.

hey legend,

i have heard that lots of people get off that list. i read somewhere that they tend to put lots of the "early interviewers" in this category to give a chance to the later interviewers so then they can compare everyone in making their final decisions. good luck....also, just wondering, when did you interview? thanx

I didn't get anything. I guess I have to keep waiting......

Oh well, waiting to hear back from med schools is more fun than anything I have ever done before. (How sad, I am going crazy.)

LOL, its not fun its torture bc I can't do anything else with my time besides go on here and check the mailbox.

just got back from work/vacation trip....saw the packet in my mail!!! i'm so psyched.....letter was postmarked dec 19th, 1st class mail. the package also has some info on housing, etc. i was pretty sold on stanford but after talking to many of my friends who are residents.....i'm now teetering between the two. any thoughts from other people would be much appreciated on stanford vs. ucsf. thanks again and best of luck to everyone!!!

Anyone here interview in early Dec and hear anything? Maybe after Jan 15th?? Sorry, I'm ****oo for UCSF 😍

damn, high priority. oh well, hope for the best in the spring.

do they reject people after hte interview? and what percentage? or do they put everyone on a high priority?

hey hoping,

from what i've read on other posts, they accept ~190 or so outright and have ~100 people on high priority. since they interview around 550, i assume that the rest are rejected.

Helloooo out there!! I am an MSI at UCSF and have been out of the SDN loop for a while, but I'm back.

fakeplaztiktree,
I interviewed on the first week of December and got my acceptance mid January-I think it was on 1/21? However, the method the ADCOM uses to review the interviewees is quite complex, and it requires many people to meet/complete forms etc. so be patient....well at least try to be patient, I know it's difficult. Best of luck!

Raincrew, If you are on the high priority waitlist you have an excellent chance of getting in. I don't know the exact numbers but I know that a large percentage of our class came off the high priority waitlist. As someone else said, they try to save a lot of slots so the late interviewees have a chance. They don't put everyone on high priority. It's high priority waitlist, waitlist, or rejection. They do reject some after interviews. Also, the ones who get acceptances right away are the same people who are getting accepted everywhere they interview. Many choose to go elsewhere so this opens the door for everyone else. Don't be discouraged!!! I know all this waiting sucks.

how about us out-of-staters on high priority? do they keep a separate list for us? is it going to be much much harder for out-of-state applicants on high priority? thanks for the encouragement!

For those in High Priority List, is there any chance get off from the list before 5/15 ? 😕

Any recent interview invites?

I was complete on Dec. 16 and I'm waiting to hear back about an interview. I interviewed last year so I *hope* that I get an invite this year.

hi citygirl,

thanks for replying. from reading last year's long ucsf thread though, it seemed like high priority IS the waitlist and that 20-40/100 are let in a year. it also seemed like a lot of people were rejected after being placed on high priority. not sure what you think about this..

hi everyone, i got the call today, i'm so excited!!!!!!! it was for an acceptance to the joint UCSF/UC berkeley MD/MS program!!!!!!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck everyone!!! 😍

hey priscy

CONGRATULATIONS!!

that's a great accomplishment!

thanks stressedout!! it sure made my work-day less boring in the office today 😍

YEAH PRISCY !!!!!

I am so happy for you. Now, both you and your roommate are in!

thanks you guys for the support, you're great!! yeah, it'd be so much fun if my roomate and i were in the same place!!!!!! good luck everyone!!!!!!

any one know when letters for this month will be sent out? I know it will be around Jan 15, but wanted to know the specific date (if anyone had called to ask).

thanks.

When I called they said they make decisions on the 15th of every month, so things probably get sent out after that...

First, I have a correction to make. There are three post-interview options at this point.......accept, high priority waitlist or reject. You are absolutely right, raincrew. Second, congrats priscey!!! I met the UCSF/UCB first years at our joint white coat ceremony and they were a great bunch. Third, the Adcom is meeting tomorrow but it takes a few days for the letters to get out. Y'all can start stalking the mailman about Thursday.

Here's the latest Adcom update:

Acceptances usually go out about the 15th of each month. Waitlist and rejection letters go out about the first of the month. Because of the holiday, the latter went out on Jan 5th. I'll post again with the percentage that is usually called off the high priority waitlist.

hey citygirl,

thanx so much for the info!

Do you know if rejections went out on Jan 5th? I am just asking because I haven't heard of any rejections that were sent out then. Thanks Citygirl

Hey snowbear,

Rejections and waitlist letters were sent out on the 5th. Apparently there aren't many rejection letters sent out at this point. I was told that its very few and probably less than ten a month post interview, which is probably why you don't hear of it. I'm still trying to find out the percentage off the high priority waitlist.............

Thanks citygirl, I really appreciate all your help, especially because I know that all of us pre-meds dealing with the app process right now can be a bit crazy about hearing from schools.

Does anyone know if/when the letters were sent out this month?

Thanks.

Hi there,

I was complete on the 18th of Dec, still waiting, don't know what the chances are. The web does say it will take ~ 8wks

HI Citygirl,

Can you help out and let us know if there is still a chance for an interview this late. Thanks a lot for all your help, have a good one

best of luck to everyone

I was at UCSF this past tuesday (Jan. 13). Actually, I came to the 1st year class lecture on lungs w/the Russian dude. Great place...excellent place to study medicine. I wanted to go to the front of the class and ask for citygirl to stand up...but I am bit of a wimp...heheheh😀

did anyone call to see if letters were sent yesterday?!?!
going loco over here!

letters will be going out next week, according to the admissions office.

Good to know. I think getting no letter this weekend would have depressed me.

Yep, there is still a good chance of getting an interview invite. I didn't hear until mid January myself. It was posted on the status page and I called immediately, of course.

And then you would have been even more embarrassed because I skipped lecture that morning

If anyone else is coming for an interview let me know so I can be sure to meet you!!! I can also introduce you to ADOR, NYCnontrad and a few others who have been posting.

Bump, anybody know if the letters have been mailed out for this month?

just called the admissions office and they said they sent out acceptance letters yesterday morning. but if they sent them out through ucsf campus mail then its going to add a couple of extra days cuz the campus mail system is SLOOOWWW (speaking from experience; i work at ucsf).

Has anyone been taken off the preinterview hold list at any time this year?

I don't know whether to cross my fingers or cross UCSF off the list...

I'm in the same boat as Dr.Kevin, do they even take people off the preinterview hold category?

Is it worth waiting for or should we just throw in the towel?
