can anyone that has interviewed at umich tell me what they thought about the school??

what is their curriculum like? pbl? lecture? mix? systems based? etc...

how did their faculty seem? do the students seem happy?

what are their facilities like?

clinical or more research based? is there a big patient pool? i know the school is kind of just surrounded by lots and lots of college kids, so i'm not sure if they would see a wide variety of patients.

also, is it hard for an out of state student to get in state residency? if i pay out of state tuition the first year, is there anyway to get in state for the rest of dental school?

thanks everyone! 🙂

Mostly lecture (didactic) based. We do some group work in some of our class, which equates to a few hours a week at most.We are in the transition of mixing systems based learning with traditional classes. At times it's annoying, but I like not having IMS (Integrated Medical Sciences) like the D2's had. Too much material in one class to do well.

So far, most of the faculty are really cool, at least in "Dental related"courses. Some have had problems in the communication department (ie. English was pretty poor), which is/was a challenge, but ironically those classes were the easiest test wise.
We are a pretty happy bunch, when we aren't stuck in the lecture hall for 8 hours a day. Luckily its only today this semester. But we get along well.

Newish for the most part. Michigan does a good job of keep "up" with technology were it counts, at least in my book. The school is old and ugly, but don't let it fool you.
clinical or more research based? This is a load of garbage, so I won't dignify it with a response, if you want more, dig up a recent post I made. is there a big patient pool? Not the biggest that's for sure. But the community outreach more than makes up for it. All the D4 I know of haven't had any problems meeting competencies. There are patients there, but its up to you to go to clinic everyday. If your patient like you, you will have plenty. i know the school is kind of just surrounded by lots and lots of college kids, so i'm not sure if they would see a wide variety of patients. Very wide variety from what I've seen in Clinic.

also, is it hard for an out of state student to get in state residency? if i pay out of state tuition the first year, is there anyway to get in state for the rest of dental school? Impossible, join the crowd. No way...

thanks everyone! 🙂
