Hey,

how do Pitt students perform on the first board exam?
Does the school provide enough clinical experience? The clinics were almost completely empty when I interviewed.

Thanks for any feedback.

During your interview you may have gotten a very skewed perspective on the students in our school, since there is only a small percentage that help out with the interviews at one time. Anyways my class is full of people from all over the united states, as well as some international students. Fashion is pretty limited to your scrubs or professional attire. There are plenty of cultural things to do around Pittsburgh as well as culturally aware students. Hope this helps

I am currently a third year student at Pitt and may be able to shed a little light on your questions.

I know the first question was about the NBDE Part I. My class was the last class to take the boards back in July. As a whole the administration told us that we scored on average about 1.5-2 % above the national average on all four sections. For the last couple of years we had always been almost exactly on the national average but this year we were higher on each and every section.

As for clinical experience, I feel that we get the same amount as most of my friends who go to other dental schools such as Temple, Penn and CWRU. I don't know when you interviewed but the clinics are usually pretty hectic. Take this week for example, I have been busy working on a complete denture case, doing a cast post and core, some restorations and beginning a complex treatment plan. I know that I have been unable to help out on any of the interview days because I constantly have patients scheduled during the interview times. I feel that the clinics may have looked mundane because of the time of the tour. Our clinics operate from 8:30am-12:30pm and then from 1:30 or 2:00pm to 4:30 pm. Most of the times when I remember tour sessions coming through have been very close to lunch time when a lot of people have already wrapped up care for the session. During normal clinic hours it is usually very rare to see an open cubicle.

I hope this helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to post 'em or PM me

thanks
