Hi guys,
So I'm about to begin my first rotation (July 1st) and looking into residency b/c ultimately I would like to work in a more clinical setting. I have only been looking through the ASHP residency directory and finding some potential residencies of interest there. However, I was wondering if there is a more comprehensive website to which I could look into residencies at (I am also considering going to Mid-year in December)

The next question I have is in regards to completing PGY-1 vs. going to PGY-2. What kind of settings can you expect yourself to work in w/o going on to complete your PGY-2? For example, I am looking into Ambulatory care/Internal Medicine and it seems like a lot of hospitals I am interested in only have a PGY-1, which includes many of the topics I am looking to cover.

Also, I wanted to know if there is anybody here taking part-time classes while doing a residency. I do remember somebody posting that they were taking a few MPH classes whilst doing a residency which is something I am ultimately interested in because my school doesn't offer a public health degree or classes as of now. I am not sure if there are residencies that have joint programs so PharmD majors can also do an MBA or an MPH while doing their programs (I am already taking MBA classes b/c my school DOES have a joint PharmD/MBA program but the more I am into this, the more I feel like public health is ultimately an interest of mine).

There's obv a lot I still don't know as of yet due to my lack of experience and not starting rotations yet, so any insight is appreciated.

Thanks a lot and good luck to everybody who is doing a residency right now!

Outside of ASHP, I went directly to the hospital's pharmacy residency page. That usually has more accurate and detailed information. Just google pharmacy residency after the program's name and you will usually find something. Some programs don't have much.

For your second question, I'm sure some of the residents finishing up can better answer but from my research, it seems you can work in internal medicine areas, ambulatory care areas, or a hybrid position where you're doing both dispensing and clinical work. I'd be interested to hear more about this from the more experienced posters.
