I have a stupid school which says it will not upload the committee letter to AMCAS and will rather send it by mail to each school.

I have a question - can I send LOR packets to all my schools on my list as soon as AMCAS opens up (with my AMCAS ID on it) on june 6th? And will the schools hold onto the letters of rec for the cycle? Or do I send it in later?

Some school's like Mayo have a LOR request - if I sent it before hand, would I have to send it again?

Thanks!

I would think that you would be fine sending them ASAP. But there really is no way to have your school use the AMCAS service? That doesn't make any sense. I think there are some schools that accept letters through the AMCAS service exclusively...

This is what I tried telling my school, but they are not listening. This is what the dean said (who is in charge of letters)

She mails them letters every day. This has never been a problem with any school to date and I am sure students have had their letter sent to the schools you mention.

I believe he is lying [regarding kids applying to those schools] because my school isn't top ranked or anything...I asked him about Dartmouth which specifically says that.

I am going to be abroad this summer, that is why I would have the letter sent in early June - if only the schools held onto it. Anyone else have any opinions/ advice/ stories?

Why dont you have your committee mail the LORs to interfolio, and submit them to AMCAS electronically via interfolio?

pitch a **** fit and tell them to use AMCAS.

If there is ANY hope of this succeeding, I would go down this road.

If merely pitching a fit doesn't succeed... find whoever is telling you no and explain to his/her department chair or dean that they refuse to use what is now the standard method for submitting letters, which is preferred by most or all medical schools, and that you feel that this is putting you and other applicants from your university at a disadvantage compared to those from other undegrads.

I was about to use a professor as a letter writer, then decided against it when he insisted on mailing to each school individually. A lot of schools say explicitly (either on their web site, secondary or email instructions) that they do not accept letters via postal mail. Maybe they just use this language as a deterrent, but I doubt it. Ask a couple of schools that say you cannot mail LORs regarding your situation, and then proceed from there.

Ditto the Interfolio idea... I would look into that.

I'm going to try the interfolio method next week - like force them to send it to that. He (advisor) seems to be very strict though....

If I go to him with a list of schools that only accept online, I might have a better shot. Can you guys tell me some schools that you know only accept amcas letter service?

sorry to hi-jack this thread, but for this upcoming cycle when should I tell my LOR writers to send it in? When AMCAS opens up and I have my ID?

Convinced the advisor to submit it online - she will have it done by July 5th. Ill still be early at that point right?
