Greetings dentists!

I know a lot of students ask about questions to ask during an interview. However, this time I want to ask what are interviewers actually looking for when asking this question? Many students prepare and ask the typical questions; does this really make them stand out?? I was wondering what the interviewers actually want to know when they ask this question....? knowledge of dentistry? their dental school? other things.

I know my question is a bit broad, but I would like to learn from your own experience and knowledge. Thank you in advance!!

Don't overthink it - just ask questions you're genuinely curious about that haven't been addressed in the day's lectures/presentations or easily found online.

"What percentage of graduating students enter a specialty?"
"What made you (the interviewer, if they are/were a dentist) decide to work in academia?"
"What sets this school apart from others? In other words, what would you say to convince someone to choose this school over another one?"
"What research/volunteer opportunities are available to students?"

Looks like I didn't read your post thoroughly enough!
I think interviewers want to see your level of interest/enthusiasm. If you just say "I don't have any questions", they may think you just want to get the interview over with.

At all my interviews, I asked what makes that particular dental school unique. They LOVE to answer that one.

I can easily imagine this backfiring on you and them asking you what you think makes it unique 😛. But, probably only the adcoms with a bad case of Mondays would do this.
