So I been in contact with different doctors and they told me that if I have questions about medical schools and becoming a doctor I can come to them. The thing is, I don't know what type of questions to ask, I need good questions. please help?!

What aspects of your job do you enjoy / find fulfilling?

What aspects of your job do you find difficult or unpleasant?

What are your thoughts regarding how you see the practice of medicine changing in the future?

You should decide what you would like to know more about the profession and go from there. I would stay away from questions that you could easily look up. Ask for their opinion on the highs and lows of what it is to be a doctor on a day to day basis. This will probably vary between the physicians you ask.

I work in a clinical setting with several residents, MDs, DOs. I like asking them if they took any time off between UG and med school, (a) because I am taking a gap year (or two) and I like knowing that I'm not a rarity, but more importantly (b) because it gives me some sense to their depth as physicians and often reveals why they went into medicine. Some were nurses/PAs and 'wanted to do more', others had wacky jobs like photographers, teachers, grad students and likewise felt they could be contributing more to society, etc.

I always make a point of asking them if there was a field of medicine they wished they knew more about. That always gets me the most interesting answers because it shows some about their approach to medicine.

1) Where did you go to med school? residency?
2) Why those choices?
3) If you had to do it all over again, would you?
4) How has the ACA affected your practice of Medicine?
5) What advice do you have for me?
6) Everything else posted on this page.

Here is the one I asked everyone "How did you pick your specialty?"

ask if they would do it again? would they want their children to choose medicine?
