Hey guys, so I am a Junior in High School with a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 Scale. As you can tell by that I am not very good with school. I am showing improvement but not much. That's just my background, now onto the questions.

When should I start preparing for the MCAT?

Does it matter where I go to college?

What percentage of college students get accepted into Medical School?

What was your GPA and MCAT score in High School?

Got any tips for me?

Muchas Gracias. If you're a student like myself that didn't give that much of a **** in high school, please tell me your story and what your did to overcome your laziness or whatever your weakness was. I hope you guys have a great day. God Bless.

You should start preparing for the MCAT about 4 months before you plan to take it, which shouldn't be anytime before your junior year in college.

Everything matters, but where you go to college matters far less than how you perform once you're there. You can go to any medical school from any college.

About 43% of people who apply to medical school in a given year are accepted.

You don't take the MCAT in high school, you take it in college.

Don't worry about getting into medical school right now - worry about doing well in high school, getting into college, and enjoying life.

Thank you! Haha, and I know that you don't take the MCAT in HS. I just was worried if I should take a class to understand the basics. I really appreciate your input.

You take physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and likely a psych course in college to understand the basics, and then you study or take an MCAT course (or both) in order to focus in on what's important for the MCAT. There is absolutely no reason to start studying anything for the MCAT in high school.

1. While you can't really prep for the MCAT until you've taken the core courses in college, you can always start prepping now by reading lots of boring books/passages to build up your stamina, reading speed, vocabulary, etc.

2. Go where you can obtain the highest GPA possible and save money. Probably a cheap state school. I'm not sure if community college is still frowned upon.

3. Idk the exact figure. Less than half but above 15%. The average school's acceptance rate is what, 5-10%?

4. I'll probably close my senior year with a 3.6 weighted. 28 ACT for me, but I'm not going anywhere that needs a higher score for college so it is what it is I guess.

5. I'm just a high-school student with no experience. As for tips, start learning life skills now so you don't come off as a sterotypical booksmart college student later.

Oh a laziness story. Sure. Let's see...I'd say from freshman year to first semester of sophomore year I was very apathetic about academics. I think I averaged a 3.0 too. Second semester of sophomore year, after I did poorly on my chem midterm, it just sort of clicked and I picked myself up. I averaged a 3.8 from then until junior year. It's my senior year now, I'm turning lazy and apathetic again. I guess you can call it senioritis, but I haven't even applied to any colleges yet. My gpa isn't tanking bad though; first quarter was 3.6. Let's just say I'm applying to colleges where I'm going to be "the big fish in a little pond" so I don't feel the need to try as hard right now. It's horrible and I hate it, but meh.
Good luck to you.

Hmm laziness stories... I found out that I could get a zero percent on my anatomy shelf and still pass the class, so I spent three days last week drinking, playing volleyball, and binging Netflix and videogames.

Haha. Livin' the dream! What was your college life like?

Hello 🙂 I'm a high school senior so here is my two cents:

When should I start preparing for the MCAT? Just as above, you should prepare for the MCAT during your junior year in college.

Does it matter where I go to college? Personally, go somewhere you don't mind spending the next 2 (community)or 4 years (university/college).

What percentage of college students get accepted into Medical School? Least than 10% I believe...

What was your GPA and MCAT score in High School? I am still in high school so no MCAT. My GPA is relatively high.

Got any tips for me? Keep studying! Don't let your 3.0 drag you down. As long as you show progress and that you are improving (3.2 for second semester and 3.4 for senior year etc..) you will be fine. Good luck!

Dang, what was your GPA as you completed college?
Not stellar but good enough to get into med school. I think I was around a 3.5 when I applied and a 3.6 when I got accepted. I did have a lot of volunteering and ECs though.
