Thank you Pbkal, wadent, twinklestar and be positive! I think as pbkal said, the answer wud be the two options like hyperkalemia and protein anabolism.
reduced serum potassium(hypokalemia) might produce which of the following?
-reduced membrane threshold potential
-elevated membrane threshold potential
-hyperpolarized cell membrane potential-answer
-hypopolarized " " "
-hyperactive neuromuscular reflexes
I don understand the concept of gettin these answers. Pls help. However, I gave a try. If I do not make sense, pls do correct me.
Hyperpolarization, by defn is, the charges inside the membrane is even more negative than the resting membrane potential right? (for ex -80mV)This will be becoz of the the more potassium comin out of the membrane to outside of the cell. If the serum potassium is low, then the intracellular potassium will also be low and hence the hyperpolarized cell membrane potential. Pls someone come forward n shed some light. yess!! ur concept is right.efflux of potassium results in repolarization of the cell membrane(coming back to normal resting membrane potential,-70mv).the cell initially gets hyperpolarized due to continuation of potassium efflux (hypokalemia)even after the resting membrane is reached.the cell is now in hyperpolarized state(eg.-80mv).then,it comes back to its normal(-70mv).
i hope i could clear ur doubt.
A dehydrated patient, as a result of severe vomiting following over-use of narcotic analgesic, might present with which of the following symptoms?
-an increased pulse rate- answer
-an increased blood pressure
-facial edema
-distended neck veins
-desire to urinate contantly
is this becoz of the vomiting, there's a less bld volume thats followed by the lowering of the BP and hence the increased pulse rate to elevate the BP. Please do explain. nothing seem to match.
Production of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase is stimulated by
-insulin
-cortisol-answer.the enzyme of gluconeogenesis.
-aldosterone
-somatotropin
which of the following statements best descibes the activity of DNA ligase?
-seals single-strnaded nicks in DNA-answer
-proofreads the DNA proper base pairing
-prevents the polymerase from falling off the DNA
-removes the RNA primer from the lagging strand
which of the following represents the principal allosteric regulator of pyruvate metabolism of theliver?
ATP
NAD
Citrate
cAMP
acetyl coA
Methyl xanthines such as caffeine and theophyline enhance lipolysis in adipose tissue by
-inducing adenylate cyclase synthesis
- " triglyceride lipase synthesis
-inhibiting cAMP phosphodiesterase activity-answer.phosphodiesterase catalyzes breakdown of cAMP.caffiene inhits phosphodiesterase, thereby increases cAMP levels.cAMP,a second messenger for hormone like glucagon-thereby enhances lipolysis.i think im clear.......
-directly activating an intracellular protein kinase- is this the answer? not sure.
-enhancing the binding of epinephrine to an extracellular membrane receptor.
