Hey everyone,

My GPA is 3.74 (I don't know science gpa b/c it hasn't been calculated but very close to that). AA/TS/PAT is 23/24/21. +250 service hours. +100 shadowing. about 1000 hours of work experience. 150 of research. HOWEVER, I was suspended last semester for attempting to take an exam for my roommate. I was rejected by multiple schools after I told them and now I am reapplying. I am probably applying to UNC, ECU, Columbia, UOP, NYU, VCU, Maryland, Louisville, Penn, Case Western, ASDOH, USC, UConn, Boston, Kentucky, LECOM. Do you think I would have a chance at any of these schools considering what happened? I really do regret what I did and REALLY have learned from it after seeing how I almost ruined my life by doing this. Also, any advice on what else I could do to really show to adcoms that I have learned from this? Should I call each school right now and let them know or send them letters or just wait and see what they say (I briefly explained it on the AADSAS question about misconduct). I am just really stressing b/c I feel like I am a competitive applicant, except for this one horrible mistake.

Thanks for any help or advice!

I think the other thread you wrote on the subject has some great advice.

I personally think forgiveness takes time and saying that you really have changed is going to be a hard sell for some because you posed as your roommate for a test. How can I really trust someone to tell the truth when last semester they did something like that? That may be the way the adcoms will view it. so you may or may not get in. If you don't get in I would suggest showing it somehow by more volunteer service or something in preparation for next years application.

No one here really knows and that is why it would be best to contact schools directly. Try to talk to a dean or assistant dean.

Yea sorry for a second thread, but I'm sure you can understand my stress level. I don't really expect anyone to know if schools will accept me, but maybe just advice on how they would handle a similar situation. I think I may just call each school and talk to them about it. I am just so mad at myself for doing something so out of character. Thanks for the help though.

When did this actually happen? Last fall and then you were suspended in the spring? I didn't notice from the other thread that you had applied last cycle. So as this went down, you told the schools and that was the end (did they actually tell you that)? I'm just trying to piece together how this went down and wonder how the schools will react differently this time if you told them last time. I'm assuming it must have happened after you applied last cycle so you had to tell them directly right after it happened. But this cycle there's a heads-up on your application.

yea it happened last december. and I was suspended in the spring. I was accepted to one school and waitlisted for another, and they both rejected me after learning about it (stupid for me to do this after I was already accepted I know...). They both said they appreciated the honesty, but had to reject me. One school did put me on the waitlist even after I told them (still on waitlist but probably won't get in), so that gives me some hope I guess. So the situation is different this year since all the schools will know beforehand. But I have been completely honest and straightforward since this happened.

Continue to be honest as you certainly have been. We all make mistakes. Just curious, and you don't have to respond if you wish, but how longer after the suspension did it take you to inform the schools? Did you inform them immediately after it happened or did you wait a while?

A lot of schools take that very seriously and could disregard your app immediately. With that said, I'm sure there will be a few that will take a risk (assuming your stats are pretty good).
