A big worry of mine is what to do when I actually get accepted places. I applied to 16 schools.

I know a lot of schools require you to respond within 2 or 3 weeks whether or not you want to be accepted. Doesn't this put me in a really tough situation if I haven't heard back from other places that are higher on my list? It seems like acceptances could be months apart.

You might want to read through that part of the MSAR again... 😉
If accepted, you put in a deposit to hold your spot. Your final decision is due in May, and even then if you get in off the waitlist at a higher-priority school, you can get your deposit back.

So if you put down a deposit at one school, do the other schools find out about it? can that hurt your chances, or is it the opposite...it helps you because they know you are wanted somewhere else?

That's confidential information that is not shared among schools until after May 15th.

Deposits aren't refundable everywhere, but, well, it's just part of the already-exorbitant expense of this process.

DO programs suck more. some school require you to pony up anywhere from 500 to 2000 ...yeah...it really sucks...AND its nonrefundable.

"Pony up" Is that phrase from the south or something? To the OP: 16 is the perfect number 😉
