Hey everyone!

Really quick question. If you want to find out which species is oxidized/reduced, or if you want to know the oxidation state, you don't need to balance the reaction right?

The only time you would need to is for nonstandard conditions calculations or for finding transfer of electrons right?

Can someone confirm this? Thanks!

The only thing one needs to tell which specie is oxidized or reduced is the oxidation state !!!! For example......Is Iron 0, +2, or +3. A balanced equation is not needed !
