I already searched around the site, but just wanted to make sure. For the application, are there in fact FOUR gpa sections (predental courses BCP, OTHER science, NON science, OVERALL)? so is math put in the NON science gpa?

Also, I took some courses at a community college before i started college, but the credits are different. For example I took math at CC and each class was 5 units on a quarter system as opposed to 4 units at my college. Also at my college, english was 6 units...does the app recalculate it..to 4 units? or does it stay at 6 units.

Thanks guys.

Math falls into other science categaory, which is used for the science GPA. The 4 GPAs are: BCP, science, non-science, and overall. For your credits, convert them all to the same format, either quarter system or semester.
Heres the conversion:
One quarter credit is equivalent to two-thirds of a semester credit. To convert quarter hours to semester hours, multiply the number of quarter hours by two-thirds and round off the total to the nearest tenth. For example, 4 quarter hours x 2/3 = 2.67 or 2.7 semester hours of credit, or 3 quarter hours x 2/3 = 2 semester hours of credit.
After you've converted it, that's the way it stays. You don't change the credit hours to match that at another school.

Also remember too…

That once you convert everything to either quarter or semester units, not all the classes will be the same amount of units (like I think you mentioned).

You have weight each class according to its worth in credits/units.

I.e:

An A in a 4 unit course + a B in a 3 unit course is a higher GPA than an A in a 4 unit course + a B in a 4 unit course.

thanks guys. actually the conversion problem is that both the CC and college I go to are on quarter system, but units are different.

For example, the english class I took at CC was 5 units, but the one at my college was 6 units (which I dont think is the typical units for an english class). So does the app recalculate the 6 units to 4 or 5? assuming there is a standard unit cap thing for specific classes. or is the app independent of what classes and credits you enter...as in they just see it as is...there is no standard for each class.

If they are both quarter already then its set and no conversions will be made. Undergrad schools assign different unit values to classes based on time/work requirement of the specific class and vary tremendously from school to school. There is no set rule that all English classes should be 5, and all math classes should be 4, etc.

In your case your CC class will be worth 5 units on the AADSAS app, and your college English class worth 6 units will remain at 6.

So to make a long story short… you are correct in your last statement that “there is no standard for each class.”

if I'm not mistaken,

dont you have to select "quarter" or "semester" for each class you enter. Then you enter the number of units. Then you enter the grade. Then you enter the aadsas grade.

So the conversion is done for you by aadsas.

Yes… AADSAS does all conversions and calculations automatically.

I believe the OP just wanted to see how things were going to shake out in regards to his/her GPA when that time came.

Thanks guys, im still a sophomore so not too familiar with the process.

just got my grades...theyre not great but at least an improvement. for 2 core classes (ochem I and physics I) i got C+s in LAST quarter. im hoping this will be the worst I ever do in a class. But this quarter, i continued the series for ochem and physics; I got Bs in both, which is an improvement. My BCP howerver is still shaky at a 3.0..which is getting me nervous.

are only the basic bio, general chem, ochem, physics classes covered in the predent BCP gpa? Is the BCP looked on really heavily? I'm a bio major so im guessing that all the other upper div bio stuff i take will go in the "other science" category. If i do well cumulatively and in the other science category, will that help? I dont know how much weight is put on these gpa categories. thanks

i think the BCP is pretty important.

i also think most of your upper division biology classes will go in BCP.

in the end, just do well in all your classes. then you will have a high gpa for everything.

i say BCP probably has the most "weight" if you really want to compare........

Correct... All biology, chemistry, and physics will get factored into the BCP. This includes lower division, upper division, and even graduate level courses.

Best advice out there! (Even better since you're only a sophomore.) If you are serious about dental school, get serious about getting good grades now. This will make things much easier in a year or two when you apply.
