All right i have a 3.31 right now still havent taken the PCAT. Only got one more semster before i apply. So i have this question. Will it look bad if i take 13 credit hours of class and get a 4.0 so i can raise my GPA to a 3.4ish before i apply or risk taking 16-17 hrs and having a GPA of say a 3.32-3.33 by the end. Keep in mind this wont affect me much cause i am almost done. I would be done first semster of senior yr.

I would say if your last 45 credits or so are good you have at least a point to voice for yourself. Make sure you dont want to end up with few poor grades with 17 credits. Good Luck.

Not to hijack your thread or anything, but how important is course load when schools look at students? I've taken mostly 13 credits for my first 3 semesters, and im taking 16 this coming one. I have taken some summer classes as well...so I am still ahead, but my course load so far has been "weak."

I would say course load in something that adcoms look at when you apply. I am, however, unsure of the importance placed upon it. However, just keep in mind that in pharmacy school, you essentially have no choice but to take the required number of hours if you wish to graduate in 4 years and that means you are often times taking 17 or more hours per semester.

It's unlikely to matter how many units you take as long as you finish your prereqs. The difference would probably be in which courses you decide to take. If your choices are a 6 unit genetics class or a 3 unit art appreciation class then it's obvious which looks better even if neither are required. But if it's a 3 unit intro to parasitology verses the genetics class then it doesnt matter, because they have no idea which class you had the option of taking and didnt and the class you did take would be very appropriate for a pharm applicant. In the end your overall GPA would be more important.

To answer the other question, I doubt what I call academic efficiency matters. I've taken as few as 7 units a quarter and as many as 16. I'll have almost 250 unit hours by the time I'm done. I've applied to four schools gotten two interviews so far and haven't been rejected by the other two yet. I didn't even bother with the PCAT, just applied to schools that didn't require it. So if it takes you 8 years at 12 units/semster (my average is actually 16) it doesn't seem to matter as long as you meet the prereqs and have a decent GPA (3.49sci/3.59cum) and good LORs (haven't seen them, but I hope they said good things😉 )

All right thanks, i kinda looked at it. IF i take 13 hrs, i can take my gpa from 3.31 to 3.42. If i take 17 hrs i will only be able to get it up to a 3.44 that is if i get a 4.0. 13 hrs and 4.0 is doable VS 17 and 4.0
