So I've been looking through some of the posts here on sdn and it seems that people generally apply to around 10 schools of their choosing. I'm applying to every school and was wondering is there any other factor, besides money, that stops people from applying to every school. To me it seems like a good way to increase you odds of getting in.

This was my criteria list:

1) location
2) research available
3) well-established - meaning how long the school has been around.

Money and time. That's a LOT of secondaries you could potentially be filling out.

That said, I applied to ~22. It does increase your odds if your stats are on the fence.

You are applying to EVERY school in the country? How could you possibly afford that and take the time to interview more than 10 places? Seems extreme.

Parents money and no job works wonders for some people. Not saying this is the OPs case, but I know people who took that route.

Location is definitely important for me. I would prefer staying on the East Coast or going West Coast (cali, arizona).

Also some schools may be out of your reach in terms of grades/MCAT. That's my case for many MDs when I will apply in 1-2 years, applying to schools just in the tristate area and lower tiers in cali. Location is important for me especially since all my family lives in either the tristate area or northern california.

Also it may be important whether the cost of living in a location can be an issue. As well as the cost of certain schools.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I am applying to every DO school (I thought it was assumed since this is the osteopathic forum). I have saved up enough money by working like crazy throughout my undergrad to pay for all of these expenses. At the end of the day, $$ will not be an issue as to why I can or cannot do something I want to do.

All the osteopathic schools?! 😱

Wow... I don't think I could manage that myself. I am having a hard enough time convincing myself to apply to more than seven - even that is a stretch for me. This is coming from a guy who applied to only one undergraduate institution lol...

More power to ya, though! 😎
