Hey is it just me or do i notice more females are in pharmacy schools than males. VCU and Palm Beach is 70 to 30 females to male ratio any reason why this is? does it also help us males in admissions?

Yeah there are more females than males in pharm school. In my school it's like 75/25. I don't think it helps the guys any in the admissions process though.

I hope not, I want them judging on our grades/interview etc....not on our gender.

I totally agree, it should be based on grades, test scores, and personality not gender. Why do you all think it is more females in the pharmacy school though is it because more females apply than males?

Is it just at that one school or at other ones too that you know of? I know at the school I want, there's alot of girls, though I don't know the exact ratio, I'm just sure there are more.

It's probably just a fluke, I don't think it's a feminine career choice or anything, and I don't see any plausible reason for picking females over males.

Weird, there's no reason for this that I can think of, sorry! 😕

I think the ratio in my class is 9:1 females:males. Glad I didn't got to pharmacy school hoping to find a husband 😉

Generally there are more females than males, mainly because more females apply for postgraduate degrees now than males do. As a result, more get in! In addition, pharmacy is a great part time field and many women find the though of working part time and earning a decent wage appealing while raising a family. (not saying men don't work part time or that women are slackers or any other BS to start any debates, so lets not see this thread go in that direction!)

There may be more women than men also because according to what I remember in my biology class in high school, there has been a trend where more women are entering the science field. This trend is caused by the change in women's role/rights in society through history. That's where we have the women's right to vote, to participate in sports, to win the Noble Prizes, and to have high-ranking jobs like men. It's like a girl power thing. Go Girls!!

No flaming as this is a direct quote from one of our deans, "The male applicant pool has just not been up to our standards. The female applicants are much more qualified."

Go ladies 👍

My class started out right at 70:30 after the losses we have suffered i have no idea how it is now.
The other classes in the school now are roughly 70:30 as well.
i think all the other rationales are very good, my experience has shown different reasons.
i would say the reason (that i have seen) for the giant increase in female applicants in pharmacy is the flexible work schedule, the ability to contribute SIGNIFICANTLY to the family bank account while working part time.
The independence it offers a woman can also be a reason (you can definitely support a family just on an rph's salery)

What kind of losses do you mean? Did people just drop out?

About 1/4 of the class in front of me will be repeating their 2nd year. If they get one more D, they are out of the program for good. These are smart students with good GPA's. The material is hard.
