Out of curiosity, I was wondering what the "quickest" route would be in becoming a Dentist, even if it requires going over sea's to another school. What's your guys input on this?

I'm not asking for an admissions guide. I'm asking if anyone knows what would be the quickest route from becoming a dentist. I was curious if there is a program for dentistry like the one St.George med school offers to many students.

I don't know if anyone pulls it off but not all dental schools require a degree. UoP does dental school in 3 years instead of 4 so that could shave off even more time.

Thanks for the excellent answers you two! Just in case you guys were wondering, how detrimental could not having a college degree be to me anyways? Would you guys choose this Dental school to go to if you guys were to reconsider anything?

If you really want a degree I'll sell you my B.A. in bio for 12.50 plus s/h.

I'm actually considering this program. Would this program be available to transfer students? i'm a freshman in college right now.

These programs are usually very competitive.

Do you have the GPA and scores to back up your application?

Although if you want my opinion, there is really no need to rush... You'll be working for the next 30+ years anyway.

I have a 3.5 GPA. I think they want 3.7.

Honestly, the reason I want a faster program is because it's quite obvious college is a waste of time, especially when it comes to practical application. I mean seriously...What the hell is a point of a bio degree, it doesn't certify you for ****. I seriously wish it was easy as high school, and straight to graduate school. We'd save money, time, and it would make life a lot easier.

It's not about how practical it is.

Your time in undergrad is suppose to serve as evidence for dental school admission committees that you can handle the dental school curriculum. You are suppose to do well in all of your classes and you get 4 years to show what you are made of.

If you dropped out in the middle, that would be one open seat and hundreds of thousands of dollars LOST. An applicant who did well for 4 years is a safer bet then an applicant who did well in 1 semester.

Besides there is a huge learning curve going from high school to undergrad. There is an even bigger learning curve going from undergrad to dental school. Undergrad is suppose to ease you in and get you prepared!

Well said!

I also think undergrad is a great time to discover yourself and grow up...because honestly high school is a joke!

Dental school is not easy to get into, deal with it...

youre not as mature as you think you are, and in three years youll find yourself significantly more capable of doing a wider variety of things. enjoy the experience and relax

I cannot stress enough how much I've changed after I finished undergrad 😉

College is a **** load of fun. Keep on track with school and have a blast.

Just realize that if you seriously want to choose this route that means no messing around in your undergrad. You need to have close to a 4.0 and get great scores on the DAT without taking all of the needed classes for it. It is extremely hard to get in early when you are up against a bunch of graduates.

You mean your school only offers a degree in bio?

If this is what you (op) want and you can get in, I see no reason not to go for it. While I agree with what has been said by those above about maturing and enjoying college, if OP feels he is ready now maybe he is.

Yeah, you are definitely missing the entire point. I guess it doesn't matter that the basic biology and chemistry you are learning now serves not only as the backbone for higher sciences in undergrad, but also in the sciences you take in dental school? I'm sorry, but as a college freshman, you have a lot of maturing to do. I know it doesn't seem like it to you, but in 3 years you will look back, and you will have changed tremendously.

I'm not sure what kind of practicality you expect as a freshman either. Do you want PhD biologists to turn you loose in their labs when you have no familiarity with anything? If you want practicality, start looking for undergraduate research opportunities.

You need to just slow down. I understand at the end of the day that most of the science you learn won't be used in a practical day to day sense, but to say it is a waste of time is just ignorant. There is a reason people devote their lives to sciences like Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, etc. The sooner you realize the importance of the sciences that you consider a waste of time, the easier it will be for you to deal with undergraduate studies.

And of course, this is completely ignoring the aspect of college that is fun. You'll meet tons of new people, make lifelong friends, have a ton of fun, etc. There is no need for you to act so elitist, as if you are above getting an undergraduate education.

do well in pre-reqs, do well on the dat, and do well on the interviews 🙂
