Hey everyone, just wondering what y'all think about me not hearing back from any of my schools so far, whether it be rejections or II notifications. I was complete at most of my schools (Applied to 25 MD) around August 24th-25th. I also applied to 2 DO schools earlier this month. My cumulative GPA is 3.76 while my sGPA is 3.71. My MCAT score was a 514 (128/129/127/130). I received feedback on my EC's and realized they were pretty lackluster, with about 50 hours clinical, 50 hours shadowing and 200 hours non-clinical, which I attribute to starting Pre-Med this past year, but I know that's no excuse. I listed on my secondaries that I would be returning to my clinical volunteering position, starting a new volunteer position at a homeless shelter, and that I would be working as a scribe in the ED, all for this current year. Please let me know what you guys think!

Yeah, you are on the lower side for hours for EC's which is probably what isn't getting you a lot of interest, but it is still pretty early for you as you were only complete 6 weeks ago. You have strong stats (extremely strong for the DO schools) so hopefully, you get some interest. Definitely fill your time staying involved in clinical and non-clinical volunteer activities and update schools in a month or two when you have added significant hours to each of those activities. The schools don't care about things you plan to do but rather things you have done.

@crazymedguy123 Thank you for the feedback, man. Is there a thread on how update letters work? I feel like I read somewhere on here that they aren't really looked upon too favorably unless you do something amazing to bring them up to speed on. With that being said, I'd happily let them know about what I've been doing since I will have about 250+ hours as a scribe by the time November hits, and will have put in some solid volunteer hours (probably about 50 each, starting from Mid-September).

How do I write X letter? LOI, update, thank you, withdrawal, correction, status

This kind of talks about different letters you send to the school. I think for activities you would give a brief description of them (probably briefer than your AMCAS activities section), any responsibilities, how many hours, etc. and how maybe those activities have influenced your interest in medicine/the school. I would just make sure its really concise because I doubt schools are looking to read basically more essays from you, but I could be wrong. If others want to chime in then I'd be happy to hear as well

You should have at least one interview by Thanksgiving. If not, start moving your feet for something to occupy your time in the 2019-2020 academic year (job or another degree) and buff your application for a second cycle in 2020.

Hey, I'm so with you! Don't feel bad, apparently it's not "late" yet but it is frustrating. I've started thinking that rejections would feel better than silence. Later on when the rejections start rolling in I'm sure I'll change my tune but I've been complete at most schools since Aug 1 and haven't gotten any rejections yet.. radio silence! Ugh!

Same boat over here. 520 MCAT, 3.9 sGPA, 3.5GPA, and nothing but a hold from one school. Waiting, waiting, waiting...

I'm aware that NYU is a donation, and probably Sinai? I think people mentioned that Cooper and Rutgers (not RWJ) are also stretches. @Goro

Time passes by pretty fast after being complete, but yeah it's scary just sitting and waiting! Yeah I'd say the same thing at first, but once rejections come in I'd want that to stop real fast.

Donations:
  • Geisinger (unless you're from the Scranton area)
  • Mount Sinai
  • Rutgers (unless you're a NJ resident)
  • Rutgers, RWJ (ditto)
  • Brown (they highly favor their own)
  • UMass
Otherwise, good list, especially if you're a NYer.
