I am sitting on three II and I didn’t get the Dec A for two of them (deferred to March decisions and the other school is not rolling). I’ve been at radio silence for more II for two months now and am not sure if I should be concerned / getting ready to reapply. Is this normal?

Second above. 3 II's is good, and you have a good chance to turn one into an A. You could also get more IIs. However, you have to assume rejection until the A is in your email, so I would be thinking about reapplication if necessary.

I know that this will upset some tender snowflakes, but until you get the acceptance letter in your inbox, you are rejected.

As such, work on your plan B. Also keep in mind that there are some rude schools that take forever to inform an interviewee of results, and they're even some that never tell them anything!

It's like this in Academia as well. I had an interview for a faculty position at Cal State Long Beach in the very late 1990s, and I'm still waiting to hear from them!

Maybe you should follow up. I hear faculty appreciate the reminders - who knows, maybe the response got lost on the pony express and they decided you ghosted them! /s

It is normal.

However, while I agree that with 3 II's your chances of acceptance are good, they are not 100%. Until you happily have an acceptance in hand, you need to assume you will need to reapply. So critically look at your application for weaknesses in both qualifications (academics, clinical experience, community service, maybe research) and look at your presentation of those qualifications.

If you see weaknesses in your qualifications, work to eliminate or at least reduce them. Realize that if waitlisted, the efforts you make towards next year will help you this year.

And if you find that you do need to reapply, also look at how you presented yourself in your application. Did you just relate hours and tasks, or did you include accomplishments, impact and reflections on those activities, specifically what you learned from them? Does your PS focus on childhood without bringing you into adulthood? Do you talk about how you want to "help people" without specifying why being a doctor is better than being a ... plumber for example, because the plumber helps people too. Or do you have one experience that appears in many places in your application, while you ignore other experiences and achievements, thus seeming somewhat one dimensional.

I am in the same boat and am starting to freak out... I have a fourth interview at a school that has a very low post II acceptance rate. Hopefully we both get good news soon!

Talked to several advisors and current MSs and apparently it’s very normal to have March decisions and not be done in December. I hope we both get very good news by the end of this cycle 🙂
