Surgery: for the long residency and high income.

I personally have the most respect for family practice and internal medicine. Those doctors have to know so much about so many different things...sometimes I think I want to specialize just because I doubt my abilities to become a doctor as well-rounded and knowledgeable as that!

she actually

sheesh the assumptions......

I agree.... family practice doctors have to resist the temptation of money and the lure of other specialties lucrative lifestyles, therefore they should get the most respect. Or, atleast that is what I tell myself

I agree. Anyone that practices in an underserved area (rural or urban) and compromises pay or lifestyle to make a difference where it's needed most--they're the docs I respect most. DO and MD alike.

It's difficult to reject the temptation to specialize today, with medical education being so expensive and compensation for primary care physicians so low. But these people do it because they have a passion for helping people overcome everyday ailments and building long-term relationships with their patients. Very cool. 👍

I agree, and third that.

Neurosurgeon gets mad respect. I wanna become one so I can tell the cardiothoracic surgoen to **** OFF!!! Thats the only reason.

"Dr Saleh, we need u to look at these charts."

"Hold on bitch, Im eating my subway sandwich"

holler at yo boy

Based on my experience, everyone ****s on everyone else and every doc thinks their specialty is the greatest.

you can do better than a subway sandwich as a neurosurgeon! 😉

neurosurgeon??

man. i better reread that High Yield neuroanatomy a few more times.

try quizno's...you dont have to be a brain surgeon to figure that out.

If you are ever in Oklahoma, eat at Mr. Goodcents. Subway tastes like dog food compared to their subs.

That being said, I respect the surgeons that deal with very delicate operations, like ENTs, hand surgeons, and yes, the neurosurgeons. There's just a certain talent to those fields that I don't believe just anyone can do, myself included.

In your opinion, what is the most respected specialty in medicine and why?

Who really cares? A doctor in any specialty can be well respected or thought poorly of. So who cares what specialty is most respected.

I ate Mr. Goodcents one afternoon after a hard night of drinking and it came up later.

Needless to say, I can't go back there.

I recommend Quiznos

if someone is so insecure that they try to gain respect by their line of work, i pity them. medicine is not about gaining respect of the lay public or your colleagues by doing a crazy residency or being a specialist. don't do a residency based on a subjective element like respect. do what you will be happy doing, whether thats proctology, neurosurgery, or maybe scatology.
