Hey guys,

hope you all r doing well. I just took my third mcat attempt yesterday. I felt like sciences went well, but verbal killed me. I felt like i was guessing a lot on ?s. my previous 2 scores were the following:

first attempt: (9 PS, 4 VR, 9 BS)
second attempt: (10 PS, 6 VR, 8 BS)

AMCAS GPA is a 3.76, Science: 3.76, AO: 3.75. My question is D I HAVE the slighest CHANCE AT ANY M.D. school providing that i did worse on a 6 in verbal this time? i was thinking of voiding the exam cuz of verbal, but then i didnt cuz i thought sciences went well. are their any M.D. schools out there that will take my 6 in VR from last time? I really dont care which school as long its in the U.S. I am not a URM, but am Asian Indian which doesnt really work in my favor either. i know three attempts is the max and this is why i am praying to god that i at least got a 6 in VR yesterday cuz after this there is no 4th attempt. I am already taking a gap year and dont want to wait another 2-3 yrs for my old scores to expire. is there ANY M.D. school out there that may accept me? i have received 3 D.O. interviews already but my heart is really set on M.D. because i may want work in academic medicine one day, otherwise D.O. is fine with me. English is my second language even though i was born in the U.S. I grew up speaking another language at home. I relly dont know how people do well on verbal. Its just i see those verbal passages and i freeze on the actual cuz they seem real dense on the real thing. I did all the EK 101 verbal this time around and was consisently scoring 7's. any thoughts?

My M.D. secondaries are just sitting in my inbox and not sure if i should fill any of em out:

rosalind franklin
creighton
uic
meharry
howard
FSU
morehouse
Medical College of Wisconsin

please help me out here. sorry for the long post. thanks to all in advance!

attend your DO interviews and rock those, because you don't really have a chance at MD. 24 is borderline for DO schools. And you get 3 attempts PER YEAR. not total.

Your GPA is very good and some MD programs may be understanding of your verbal score given that you are an ESL applicant, but I wouldn't assume that to be the case so having a backup plan would be good. Caribbean MD programs are an option if you have your heart set on MD. Your best shot is at DO programs, and I think that being a DO wont prevent you from doing academic medicine. You could get a DO and a PhD, or alternatively you could get a PhD and see if it helps you get into MD programs, maybe you'll do better on the MCAT by that time.

If you want to be an MD, focus on becoming an MD. Leave the DO for those that actually want it. And no, you have no chance for MD.

the only reason I want to become an MD is because I may want to do research or work at a premier academic center. In practicing medicine and treating patients both are the same. but if D.O.s can work in research labs and work/teach at big Hospitals then I am fine with that. Also, i use to think that D.O.s are only limited to practcing in the U.S. but i think they can practice in 42 countries around the world

Uh, you clearly don't realize that there is such thing as DO/PhD. You can work in research lab even with Bachelor's, let alone medical degree.

And I've been noticing lately how so many Asians on SDN are applying Meharry...🙄

Do you ever read books or commonly do things where proper grammar and sentence structure is required?

I ask because your post is riddled with errors similar to those of someone whose primary day to day experience with the written word comes from text messaging. I know you said that English is not your first language, but the feeling I get from your post is that you are just very rusty with reading and writing in complete sentences.

That's simply not true, a quick google search for do phd brought up this:
http://www.physicianscientists.org/careers/training/do-phd

Also you can go different routes, ie get your phd first then get your do/md, just having the phd can be helpful for doing research, provided that it is in a relevant field.

I think it is just fine to want to be an MD but to become a DO, there is so much overlap between the two degrees and as long as you are doing it for the right reasons you can still be a great doctor. In fact a large proportion of DOs end up doing MD residencies, after which for all intents and purposes they are equivalent to MDs.
You are correct that practicing outside the US may be more difficult for DO but DOs are rapidly gaining acceptance around the world
