Meanwhile over in Med onc…
Meanwhile over in Med onc…
But he’s out here catching flies all over the placeI am actually sad by Spratt's tweets. I've met him in person and think very highly of him, he couldn't be nicer or more helpful, and I really respect his work.
But his online behavior is awful. It's not good for the him, Case, or the field.
i think he said attracting fliesBut he’s out here catching flies all over the place
Wake me up when the MOs start bickering on Twitter about the costs of nivo. Oh that’s right they’re too busy pushing drugs and survival curves out. While ROs flex their righteous indignation.
RO twitter ****ing pathetic group…this is why I needed a 260 on step I?
I think what he’s trying to say…Throwing shade across town?
Throwing shade across town?
Esp if my bench press is lower than my IQI’d hate to be a resident on the Case GU service today.
In "The Sociopath Next Door" (5% of the population btw), it's taught that there's really but one way to deal with these problematic personality disorders: run away. Fast.Diagnosis: a narcissistic successful psychopath resides at the top.
It's amazing that a man whose presence in this field has become so large can act so small. I think Spratt was someone that many of us respected, myself included, for engaging with us and openly discussing our concerns as well as his. I like a lot of the work he's done and appreciate the lack of "hand waving" when he gives opinions on how to manage some of the more controversial situations in prostate cancer. That being said, I do think it's clear that he does not like to be challenged. He has his opinions, he feels strongly about his opinions, and there's not much room for any opinions that are contrarian to his. That's a dangerous trait for a person in power.
This fringe group is quite misunderstood. We may bash radonc but it's not because we hate it, we just hate the direction it's moving in. If anyone were to ask me and many of us here, I'd tell them I absolutely love my job and this field. The issue is that we as mostly private practice physicians have a very different reality to those in academia and it's a reality that many of our academic counterparts either refuse to acknowledge or knowingly pretend doesn't exist. We are viewed as/treated like second class citizens and it's entirely reinforced when a chairman of an academic department behaves this way. Simul brings up a valid point in what looked like a civil discourse and the response amounts to "I'm sorry, who are you to have an opinion?" What a douche.
Absolutely agree. Hey @Dan Spratt everyone make's mistakes, esp. on Twitter. We own up to it and SDN will forgive (not sure if Twitter has that ability...). Keep visiting SDN!Well said.
I'm a Spratt fan for the reasons listed above. I like how he bulldogs the urologists too and (at least I perceived it this way) backed up claims with data. I liked how he wasn't afraid to make "controversial" statements about protons.
But that interaction was just an awful look. I was really disappointed.
Part of why I prefer SDN over Twitter is that there's no character limit.Absolutely agree. Hey @Dan Spratt everyone make's mistakes, esp. on Twitter. We own up to it and SDN will forgive (not sure if Twitter has that ability...). Keep visiting SDN!
What people forget is there are a small group of us who post regularly...but thousands of lurkers. Anyone can go check the view count on the front page for themselves. This Twitter thread is at what, 600k+ views now? I just added it up, and just threads I've started that are currently on Page 1 have over 50k views, combined.Fringe Group, noun. a group that is on the periphery of a larger organization because its views are more extreme than the majority.
We're not just some fringe group. There are dozens of us!
Won't matter. Forever immortalized in screenshots on this thread. Best way to preserve themhas he deleted that tweet yet?
He kinda had to considering spratt has literally blocked a cadre of people on Twitter who might actually call out his pathologically narcissistic behaviorbetween yesterday and today, I had 3 rad oncs IRL text me spratt's tweeet like 'wtf'
the sad thing is, and I am part of it, like 95%+ of people who saw that tweet by spratt I am sure were disgusted by it, but no one publicly spoke up. Who wants to be part of it? I am not even in academics so it doesn't matter, but it's not worth it. I feel bad Simul had to stand alone.

Found his rehearsal draft, before the university PR crew cleaned it up:Did you guys catch the ketchup reference. Can you trust a man who hates mustard.

I spit my drink outResponding twice, but after watching the condiment talk, I want to know so badly if he does DREs. Ive saved at least 12 hours, 30 mins to an hour of which i wouldve had my finger in some rando's ass.

bateman said:My name is Dan Spratt. I’m 40 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I’ll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
Cue huey lewis - hip to be squareAnyone else get this vibe:

Indeed, checked out his business card: Its bone. And the lettering is something called Silian Grail."Anyone else get this vibe:

I’ve received the messages, as well. I’m not feeling alone at all, but I’m touched (seriously).between yesterday and today, I had 3 rad oncs IRL text me spratt's tweeet like 'wtf'

It ain't just about the IQ, it's also about the EQ....If you don’t use any (!) condiments and if part of the reason is because it saves you time (!!), it is important to also have the insight to know that you should never tell this to anyone, ever, under any circumstance.
Tasty sandwiches are a waste of time, proper grammar in a note is a waste of time... by corollary is contouring a waste of time? I know of other prominent GU chairmen who do not contour a single prostate; just sign off on what the dosimetrist has done.First of all, many condiments are essentially anutritional. Hot sauce, mustard, salsa, relish, kraut, etc… minimal (if any) calories. Some sodium, but can take the place of salt. So I’m not buying the “healthy eating” line.
I think he honestly believes the the average human being spends 5-10 minutes applying condiments to their food each day, and it took a genius intellect like his own to crack the code toward saving that hour a week.
He needs to spend more time watching subway sandwich artists to understand that it takes 4 seconds to apply mustard to even a foot long sandwich.
Well, he CAN care less about accolades. He can care a lot less.9:30
Dan Spratt: "You have to really ask yourself are you doing this because you want to achieve impact in this world? The byproduct of impact, sure, as you've heard, I have papers and grants, I have a good salary, I might have been recognized for things, but those are byproducts and I can care less what my CV looks like. I do it for the impact and these things come with it."
Also Dan Spratt: I've changed multiple national guidelines and work w/ NCI, NRG, CMS, FDA, & pharma, I'm kind of a big deal
I'd say things are going better for you, both online and IRLI’ve received the messages, as well. I’m not feeling alone at all, but I’m touched (seriously).
