if you think a black pro-mask lady is a classic 'Karen' then you are deeply confused about what the term Karen is supposed to mean
You think the righteousness that surged through her soul when that forced-to-land-by-her plane touched down in OKC came from making 150 other humans massively inconvenienced so she could be right or from saving herself from dying from COVID?

probably wearing a cape right now and embracing the "and"

Am I missing something? Isn’t the person not wearing the mask the one inconveniencing everyone else? If they didn’t wear one, and everyone followed suit, that wouldn’t be a travel situation I’d be happy with. I’ve traveled a lot throughout the last few years, precisely because airports and airplanes are strict with masking protocols. Think targeting wrong person here …

What seems to be the case from her tweet is she started a confrontation. No need for an individual to be the mask police.

On the other hand, some folks just need to learn a little irish democracy: LEGEND: Man Holds French Fry in His Mouth for 90 Minute Flight So He Doesn’t Have to Wear a Mask (VIDEO)

If no one says anything and everyone takes off their mask, then what? Someone has to be the one to say something ?

If you don’t agree that masks help (and that’s fine - it’s not settled science), that’s a different debate. It’s an FAA regulation.

If we saw someone sneak a knife on board..

Man, forget it! I’m gonna get KHE’d

Until said covidiot mouth breather is seated next to you....

I was making the khe reference in jest, Karen was in the right here, agree with @RealSimulD esp for those of us with kids who aren't old enough to be vaxxed yet

She was in the “right” but most of us would still prefer to sit next to someone without a mask than have flight diverted. Most Americans eat out etc without masks and airplane upward ventilation makes spread of Covid difficult. In the end she was still exposed for hours but now also had flight diverted.

Was she really shocked she was "insulted, berated, and abused" by an as$hole?

?

Most people would be shocked if they were ON a flight that had an altercation so bad that an emergency landing was needed, let alone being involved with the person

I'd be pissed. But, shocked? Come on. This is the way things are now. Some clown doesn't wear a mask, berates people, plane gets diverted, clown gets a book deal with the MyPillow guy. the shocking part is you finding this shocking.

I don’t know that most of us would. Maybe? I would not.

I doubt she thought the mask-less wonder would prefer to end up in police custody than follow FAA protocol. It’s really not her fault. Her request was reasonable, the person’s response wasn’t.

Essentially flying in a packed aluminum sardine can, higher risk than average imo

I was honestly under the impression it’s lower risk due to very frequent air turnover. I might be wrong though.

Yeah - wondering about that, too. But, also with very restrictive mask rules, who knows ?

In my experience I see a lot of chin straps and crap cloth masks on the plane. So I doubt that does anything.

With all that said, those are the rules. Dude should just wear the damn mask. But I’m pretty non confrontational, I can’t imagine policing that stuff (I’d just leave it to flight attendant).

I say we get in on some private jets to avoid the risks:

The word "fornicator" comes from the Latin word "fornix" which in English means "arch." In ancient Rome people would cross bridges on the outskirts of town into the city, and prostitutes would dwell in and around... and especially under (under the bridge's "fornix")... these bridges for easy access to weary and lonely and gullible travellers.

This. It’s the airlines job to enforce their rules. If they didn’t and I was flying with my kids (which admittedly I’m not doing during this wave for just this reason) I might say something to the person or flight attendant but otherwise would just sit comfortably in my N95. As others have said, there’s a lot of crappy mask wearing and poorly effective cloth masks at baseline. If you’re going in a enclosed space (like our clinic rooms) and want to be protected, you need to do it yourself with an N95 or equivalent.

Fornix vaginae

I would do it non ironically as I am now an unabashed shill for anything proton related. According to My paymasters and desire to stay employed
If you work in the coal mines you know coal is not great for the environment ... but you gotta put food on the table!

Precisely. I don’t blame myself well I kind of do. I was put in a ****ty circumstance and I’m doing what I can to survive because in the end nobody not ACRO AMA ASTRO or you’re mentors give a **** if you starve. There isn’t any hope of doing anything else either. So in a way I’m like a coal miner.

FAA/government rules. Airlines got put in the position of enforcing them. But hey that's what happens when you take the government's bailout money.

Recently some airline CEOs asking to be relieved of the mask mandate: Airline CEOs Tell Congress We Don’t Need Masks On Planes, Get Factchecked By Flight Attendant Union President

But just like x-raying shoes, masking on planes may never end.

Sounds analogous to CMS.... Don't take the money, don't have to deal with the restrictions....

Statistically you’re probably a lot more likely to kill someone by transmitting Covid then by having your bag not completely underneath the seat in front of you or your tray table down on takeoff.

why should she not? I really don't get the question.

It really doesn’t have anything to do with radiation oncology other than the fact that she is a rad onc. If I was even tangentially involved in something like this where the plane was forced to land, I don’t think I would want to draw attn to it at all no matter if I was in the right or not.
