People like BK were always going to dissapoint. “Leaders” will “lead”. BK calls CS a sexist and if this is true (which is so not) why shouldn't BK be cancelled as racist? You see it goes both ways. You want a brown guy to stay in his lane. Times have changed BK!!! Plantation and sweet tea ain’t it now buddy!
I think we should cut some of these guys a break for occasional blups. Sue yom and bk are good “guys”. Some of the few in leadership who are actually trying to improve this specialty. Would be in a far better place if the rest of radonc emulated them.

What is the blup? The way to shut down debate is to call people -ist. You think more people should behave like this? Eek.

all of this is a terrible look for @sueyom. it is unfortunate that she has presented herself as such.

Agree… no “-ism” accusations warranted. On the other hand, Shah should take a deep breath. It’s clear that the changes he proposes are difficult to implement and require restructuring the entire business model. Dr. Yom can’t just agree to them without first crunching some numbers… even if she agrees with them in principle. While I did not sense any sexism in their debate, I did sense that one party is looking to move on to other things, while the other will not let go. Author fees suck… but don’t quite warrant cornering someone who isn’t interested in arguing.

Actually if you look - Dr. Yom restarted this conversation yesterday. She simply couldn’t let it be. I don’t think she is used to being questioned.

Chirag Shah? The guy who wrote the "Bloodbath" editorial in the journal a decade ago? Yeah, I'm pretty confident he would have said that to Zeitman.

Epically douche and paternalistic thing to say by BK.

Who hasn’t been wrong or said something they regretted.

She said she didn't have time for this any more and Chirag stopped. Then, she re-started. I don't think what you're saying reflects the reality of the interaction.

How often do I f*ck up? Like every day a million times. And, what do I do? I reach out. I send a text or DM and I apologize. I do it on here, too, because I regret being antagonistic. BK didn't take the time to message Chirag or give him a call. He quote-tweeted in a very aggressive manner and called him a sexist. Does he think he is wrong or regrets it? What makes you think he does? I don't see any signs of that.

Thanks for posting that to fill the rest of us in. The "mansplaining" tweet really had nothing to do with anything and is such a bad look.

Truth really is stranger than fiction, can't make this stuff up.

The self-serving s--- people will do to try and stir up outrage on twitter to improve their social standing on the app never ceases to amaze me. It's a freaking cancer eating away at society. I hope Elon burns it to the ground.

This Twitter discussion is pretty strange. I think the academic leadership should take a step back from the discussion.

@sueyom -- There will always be critics of anything you do, no matter how good or well-intentioned both sides are. Sometimes the right move is to state what you're doing and agree to disagree. I do appreciate you discussing on SDN.

Otoh now that they seem full woke can I spare myself a lot of useless arguments with “our leaders” if I start identifying as female

I admit the timeline it’s a little confusing, but I didn’t really see much of a breaking point. Perhaps some “let’s agree to disagree, but here is why you are wrong” type stuff.

He was pestering her. It’s not a crime, and is sometimes called for. To me, it seemed a little over the top for this topic. Either way, nbd

The moral of this story is…

Being a leader of anything seems like way more trouble than it is worth

Eh some of these leadership positions pay a lot of money. They're also a good stepping stone to positions that pay more money. It all depends on your ambition level, I think.

I couldn't care less, tbh. I just wish the interface on ijrobp wasn't so ****ty. I seem to have trouble logging in via chrome, or else it will send me to PRO or something. Would appreciate an easier login process as I do read the articles, but maybe I'm the only one experiencing this.

OMG thank you for saying this as I have been so confused why I keep getting shuttled to PRO

Looked up California faculty salaries several years ago : sue yom was making half (500k? Which sucks in sf) what some of the other UC (worthless) chairmen like Mikey Steinberg were grifting. My guess is that red journal editor involves an enormous amt of work with almost no compensation and may be easy to personalize criticism. As chairwoman of one of the best programs, it’s not like she needs it to build her cv.

DUDE. yes, what is the matter with that?

I think it has something to do with clearing the history in chrome as it doesn't happen in IE. This I was told by someone from ASTRO.

reminds me of this

Ray Zalinsky:
Goin' a little heavy on the pine tree perfume there kid?

Tommy:
No, it's an auto air freshener.

Ray Zalinsky:
Good, you've pinpointed it, now the next step is washin' it out.

My issue is that it keeps on trying to link my account to some other phantom elsevier account but it never works... the whole thing makes it take like 10 minutes to log on. Super frustrating.

Ahhh the good ole phantom Elsevier account. I can't tell you how many times I've changed my password for no damn reason apparently

Yes, also happens to me occasionally. I thought I was the only one.

Live your truth Wallnerus.

Yom, along with much of the ASTRO leadership is very woke. Any discussion is oppressive emotional labor and under the wheels of the bus you will go. The only entertainment is watching as they will inevitably devour themselves in struggle sessions.

Annnnnd he gets called out

Beautiful. I was going to chime in and say something similar myself but this is perfect.

Having said that, I think the reaction to IJROBP criticism was way over the top.

Kind of tired of having to say this re: radonc Twitter, but once again ALL. ARE. PUNISH-ED.

There is so much gas-lighting on this topic - ridiculous. Each tweet trying to "out-outrage" the other.

Twitter is a cancer on humanity

20-30 years ago, people would simply think what they were thinking and then move on with their day. If there was truly a major objection, they would write a letter to the editor. Those letters would tend to be formal, respectful and interesting. Now tweets reflect any random thought going through any random person's brain.

Twitter gives everyone the illusion that the world would be barren without know their each and every thought. I really hope the pendulum starts careening back toward sanity soon
