Are you guys hand writing or emailing your thank you notes to your interviewers?
Any recommendations on stationary to buy for handwritten notes?

Email here... Might be a little less personal but it's faster and you know they get it.

Agree.

Are people doing thank yous for prelims also? Feel more like herded cattle on these and less inclined to thank people since they interview so many more and we are ultimately a "warm body" for a year.

i said f it and just emailed them.. better than nothin and i dont have time to sit and write thank you cards with bull on them 50 times in the next 2 months.

My writing is awful too so it would take me forever to write decent looking ones

Just planning on e-mailing PCs and people I interviewed with. I've read multiple times not to e-mail PD directly as it can be annoying.

I think if you met the PD it's not a bad idea to email them, but otherwise I agree.

What does it mean when a program doesn't send a invite but doesn't send a rejection either at this point?

Still reviewing my app? Unspoken waitlist?

Prolly just a nicer unspoken version of what MCW said in their rejection email lol No invite yet, but if people drop, they may invite you yet.

I ended up adding three TYs because prelim surg is taking so long to offer interviews and I don't have time to interview in January... and all of them offered my interviews like 2 days after I applied lol.

I dont think its annoying at all if they were one of your interviewers. If anything, the program chairman is the one you probably wouldnt want to annoy, he's not as invested in the residency process as the PD.

Still early, MSPE's just went live yesterday. I haven't heard a peep from programs, but today I got a competitive TY interview and a Rads interview in a competitive location today.

just cancelled 11 interviews all in the northeast.. hopefully some of those spots go to you guys 🙂

The recent storm giving you second thoughts? haha

I'm hoping the interviews continue to roll in. Got a big one today

I'm sitting at 13 interviews scheduled at the moment, I've cancelled 4. Hopefully I can add a couple big guns here shortly and I'll be pretty damn satisfied.

capping myself at 12.. i don't see any reason to do more than that. Especially when I am really confident my first choice will take me.

I did the unthinkable and failed step 2 CS. Otherwise I'm a strong applicant: step 1 270s, junior AOA, 3rd year - 5 H, 2 HP, good LOR, etc. Why didn't I wait until December to take it?!?! I've already taken it again and expect a passing score on Dec 7th. I did not automatically resubmit the USMLE transcript so programs have no idea I failed it. I over-applied so I have plenty of interviews from top tier to lower tier programs.

I haven't been panicking but am trying to come up with a good strategy to match. I figure the interview will go one of three ways:
1. They won't ask about step 2, and I won't have to bring it up so long as I pass before starting residency.
2. They'll ask but will view it as one bad day in 4 years of excellent work and/or see the test as a scam anyway.
3. They'll think I'm a know-it-all with no communication skills and not rank me as there are plenty of other great applicants who passed on the first try.

I'm aiming for 25 radiology and 5 prelim interviews to maximize the number of programs that fall into #1 or #2 and scramble into a prelim year if necessary. Right now I have 17 rads interviews and still have room for 8 more. Any thoughts?

.

Currently have 18 of which I cancelled 4, rejected at 3, "silence" from 5, waiting on 19. Got the last transitional I wanted, Capped at 10 Prelim/TY.

Holy moly, got an invite. Come home from work, all dates are taken except one.

I need to be faster about this.

One of the dates was gone in about 15 mins. I was taking a nap and woke up randomly and saw I received the email about 5 mins ago. Wasted 10 minutes deciding between 2 dates and ended up having the decision made for me.

Which one are you guys talking about? Had two invites today, neither of which I could get my preferred date. Frustrating.

rich man's problems guys

same.. i keep my phone screen on so the wifi connection stays on, otherwise I'll miss emails..

but like others, I've learned early on how super fast you need to be.

if you have push email on your phone I don't want to hear any complaining. I'm a loser with a flip phone 🙁

I upgraded my phone so that I would have reliable e-mail/GPS/etc. Too much at stake to have an inferior phone IMO.

You can get a decent smartphone for pretty cheap these days

So I completed a residency, was going to go into fellowship but decided that I'd like to go into Radiology. Sadly it took me a while and my applications to radiology were kinda late, about last week.

I have called a number of programs and have been told that even though deadlines have not passed, they are full. Does that mean that it's unlikely that I'd get any interviews? From looking at the board, it seems that some people have quite a few IV's, but some people don't have that many, and that there are a # of programs still giving them out.

Am I out of luck with this, or are programs still sending out invites?

Programs are still sending out invites, I don't think anyone here can really evaluate your candidacy though...

Of course, I'm not asking for anyone to evaluate how good/bad of an applicant I am, but I find it surprising that coordinators would tell me, we have already selected all our candidates. still seems kinda premature, especially given how many programs there are and that MSPE's were just sent out.

13 interviews
2 wait lists
2 rejections
~50 no reponses

My biggest mistake I think was I got my complete app in late. I didn't know you needed to give LoR writers a month to do it. Hint to future applicants: ask for your letters in July not mid september. Get your COMPLETE app in ASAP. After comparing my interviews to a peer of about equal standing I have to say he's doing alot better because he got his stuff in way before me.

BTW 13 interviews sounds great, until you realize only 3 are good, 3 are solid and the other 7 are mediocre to poor. I am aiming for 16 total interviews. I heard that it pretty much guarantees you'll match if you rank 15+ places.

Steady stream of Rads/TY interviews have come in since MSPE has been released. Unfortunately some of my top choice programs still are taking there sweet times according to last years Auntminnie interview thread. Now it is getting tough to schedule! I hate Step 2 also! 😡

How many interviews did you get post MSPE? and how many total do you have? Just curious!

I applied mostly last/this week, I have none. I'm very nervous thinking that I may get none even though I've applied to about 70 programs!

I haven't gotten a post mspe bolus yet, more like a trickle, but i spose quality counts as much as quantity. close to half my programs haven't offered anyone yet.

Yeah same here. I've gotten 1 post MSPE.

Sitting on 5 interviews but the quality is good. Disappointed about not getting UW or NW yet but just waiting on the Cali programs mostly. Still have about 20-25 programs that haven't sent out any invites yet.

It's just odd bc I don't have a lot of interviews relative to others (9) just they're all top programs. Part of that is my app mix but I've gotten no love from places like ccf, mcw, unc, Baylor, and tufts. I can understand not getting UVA, u mich, and Hopkins, but the mid-tiers all hate me haha.

I also only have one prelim surg interview (although I have all 3 tys I applied to, all in wi)

They prob assume you won't seriously consider them. Ive seen it happen.

Also, does anyone know anythin about the Mount Auburn program? I have a strict must have at least 4 per year policy, and they have 3, but also have the Harvard name attached to them. I just never really payed attention to them before.

Mt Auburn is a good program, they feed a lot of people into bid/bwh/mgh fellowships!

I guess that makes sense. In the end I only want ~15 interviews or w/e, I guess it's fine.
