Radiology 2012 applicants

Same here. Still sitting on a whopping 3 rads and 7 TYs/prelims. No love at all from my home programs.

Time to drink until I can't feel feelings anymore:laugh:

I feel your pain. 5 rads, 6 TY's/prelims

It could be worse... You could be applying to derm... My friend has 265+/AOA and pubs and applied to literally every derm program in the country and has 0 interviews...

The derm process is awful. I do not envy them.

That's crazy. Maybe other specialties offer interviews later in the season though? I have a competitive friend who is applying to ortho and is sitting with two out of the 70 or so he applied to. He says that they move a little later. I haven't really looked into it so it might not be true.

They do move later but manny applicants who would be considered the top in basically any other specialty pan-apply and hope for 10 interviews. It's nuts. I pray for my classmates applying to derm and rad onc. I'm over here worrying about matching into one of my top choices and they are worrying about just matching.

I heard from UCSD. Rejected..... from their prelim medicine program. At first I didn't read all the way down to the bottom and I thought it was the rads program... I literally shed a tear. lol. But then I realized it was the prelim medicine, so whatever.

I've read that PENN is considered to be a top hospital to train. Do you guys know if this refers to just Hospital of UPenn, or to Pennsylvania Hospital as well?

They're talking about UPenn. But Pennsy (aka Penn Hospital) is a good program that's often underrated, imo. Nice location. Program director is really cool from what I gather. If you got an interview there, you should definitely check it out.

imo, top philly places are something like this: upenn > TJ >> albert einstein = temple = pennsy >> others. Probably depends on what you're looking for though. GL 👍

Yeah but their process just sucks, my bro's friend had 280+ and was #1 in their class in a top 10 school and matched to her #16th choice haha, f that noise.

I'm not sure what to do with prelims, I have 4 interviews out of 17 prelim surg and 20 total prelims, I guess we'll see what happens. Worst case I'll scramble prelim med here which wouldn't be the end of the world.

Dude you almost gave me a heart attack lol

You have a couple TY's too don't you? As long as your list is not just all super desirable TY's I think 5 prelim/TY's is enough.

In NYC for an interview, every time I come here I think doing res here would be pretty sweet!

3 WI tys, and a bunch of prelim surg programs.

Only been once and I wasn't even 21 but I hope to get at least iv there

I've been here 3x in the last 5 weeks, twice for fun, and once for iv, this hotel I'm staying at is pretty baller.

Unfortunately I am here for an interview and have to study for step 2 so I can't live large tonight, at least not THAT much... still going out a lil though 🙂

I think Miami offered all their interviews before my transscript was even uploaded lol

Im interviewing at miami in 2 weeks.. I got that invite way back in early october.

Anyone get Sinai?

Nope. Tons of love for me from all of NYC's community programs but only Montefiore in terms of academic programs. I am dead set on NY and thought my app was very competitive for the big programs in NYC. I guess i thought wrong. Thing is, my interviewers at the community programs are suspicious when they see someone with >260 and junior AOA. Im screwed either way

After a bunch of bad news the past two days...... heard from Santa Barbara Cottage. I'm super stoked!

Nope, but the only NYC program I'd probably come visit at this pt is probably NYU. I'm not excited about either NYP program.

Then give me your interviews at both if you have them! 😀

Pardon my ignorance, but where can I find the thread that says which programs (rads or prelim/ty) have already sent out interviews?

I'm waiting on a whole bunch, and would love to know whether or not other people have already heard from them already...

Thanks!

Im actually really high on beth israel in nyc too along with nyu, what do u guys think of that program.. right in the heart of manhattan, strong rep, good IR.

I'm down to 5 program who haven't had anything posted to AM. Feels good to kinda know what I'm working with from here on out.

I still have 16 left.

I'm confident I'll get at least 5/16 to make it to double digit interviews

I have 15, plus a bunch who haven't offered a significant amount of interviews. We'll see.

How do you know which programs out of the ones that have sent out invites already have a lot of spots let and which one's don't?

Comparison with last year's thread.

E.g. Cornell has typically invited late November for Dec/Jan dates, the "early round" could not have possibly accounted for everyone or even most people
E.g. MGH has a crapload of dates and customarily notifies on a daily or bidaily basis in the 2nd week of November
E.g. Michigan, on the other hand, fills up pretty quick and we're probably looking at rejections at this point.

They're obv very different programs. BE and SLR are good community programs. I only applied to academic programs bc I want to do a lot of research but I think BE is solid.

I think Yale has a lot of remaining dates too.

Didn't yale not match 2 spots last year? Kinda makes you wonder how that happened...

Well, today has the potential to be either a very good day or a very bad one. I would be content with receiving just one interview from the list of my remaining places. Not real confident on that, however. Also, I fully expect auntminnie to be one big sh*tshow by the end of the week.

Yeah today could be huge.

Good luck everyone, especially my fellow Cali exiles.

AM has already taken a turn for the worse and I def contributed

U Chicago invite but not Rush, UIC, Loyola, etc.

Weird

Congrats man. No love from Chicago for me, except for Northshore TY.

I think I am really starting to understand this regional bias. 0'fer in the MW unless you include Pitt

20 interviews, 5 rejections, 9 silence, 12 to go.
Of the rejections/silence, includes Mayo, Michigan, Northwestern, Chicago, Baylor-Dallas, GW, Georgetown. Midwest and DC hates me, but I'm not complaining.

DrizzT -- it's because you go to med school in Wisconsin. They are leery of people who have never ventured inward from the coasts. Wisconsin is right around all these places. CCF is probably just because TLM is wise enough to know that you won't go there EVEN WITH midwest ties, and I bet you would've gotten Michigan had your application not been slightly delayed at the outset.

Got another TY today and my prelim interview today was awesome, I'm finally not worried about prelim anymore! I'm at 11 int, 4 rej, 13 silence, 15 to go.

+1. Chicago has been kind to me as has the rest of the midwest. East coast? South? Not so much. It's been hit or miss. Geography bias is real; didn't realize how much so until I saw first hand how invites vs. non-invites unfolded.

I'm pretty much set in my interviews at this point, and would only consider an invite from a few places from here on out. GL, cali friends...your invite days are near 👍

How many did you end up with? I only have 4 currently, hoping that I may make it to 10. I have not heard from most of the programs though, not sure what to make of it.

turned out to be a very quiet day

Very quiet indeed. All I got was a rejection from MSKCC TY (and I guess a silent rejection from U Chicago)

After how the past few days went for me, no news is good news at this point.

Last 9 ERAS messages were all rejections or waitlists except for a prelim invite (and that doesn't really count because I'm doing an away there )

I'm like LeBron in the 4th quarter right now

today was my first non-email day (either interview, rejection or waitlist) in over a month.. it was almost weird.. I logged into gmail in safari on my iphone just to be sure my email app didnt stop workin or something lol.

So I had an enlightening talk with a bunch of rads applicants at my interview today. It really seems like mid-tier applicants all have a f-ton of interviews and top tier ones are mostly just getting top programs. Very interesting.

-"Mid-tier" applicant here

Had the same conversation with a fellow applicant the other day. He hinted at the "level" of his application and how he had only 5 IV so far and only at top level places other than the one we were both at (which could be argued is lower top 25).

I have been blown away by the invites I have gotten.... 26 rads alone (of 56 applied to). I will admit not all are large academic programs, but about 1/2 actually are. I never would have thought when I submitted that this would be the case. It's been flattering to get so much love 😍

I wonder if non-top tier programs feel more comfortable interviewing applicants that have a much higher probability of actually going there than applicants that clearly are using them as a back-up

I think I had this same talk yesterday at a dinner...probably a different place though.

I got U Chicago today, but I don't know whether I'm going to accept it. Already have NW. Not sure if I really want two Chicago programs, so who knows.
