hi all, question about publications and successful radiology match.
I know radiology is a ROAD specialty indicating some degree of competativeness to the match. However, it is nowhere near as competative as plastics and derm - two specialties that I've been told require publications IN their fields to match. I've also been told ophtho applicants should have 'in field' pubs for a successful match.... herein lies my question...
My question is: do I need publications in radiology to match sucessfully, and if so to what degree will not having one hurt my application at the very best residencies? I have a few publications in fields that are not radiology because I didn't have interest until this year (3rd year of medical school). I realize any publication looks good, but to match into the very best programs, should I start radiology research NOW in hopes of an 'in field' publication?
Am I being too neurotic? I've enjoyed all of the research that I've done in the past but I'd like to go to a "top" (i.e. academic) radiology program because I am very interested in an academic career.
Thanks for your input.
