Radiology Rumors

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For the most part it's rare to work over 60 hours in a week here except during night float. My typical hours so far with call and weekends is about 50-55 hours a week in the hospital. One thing about radiology is that you will be expected to read a lot outside of the typical day so although my time in the hospital isn't as bad as during the call months, I personally am spending more time than I was as an intern. For a radiologist, expect to always have to be doing some weekends and overnight call even as an attending. In fact, with the tight supply we're working much harder and longer than we did in the past. While the specialty has a reputation for being really nice and it certainly isn't bad with much less call and hours than the medicine or surgery residents, it's not entirely a breeze. It's a wonderful specialty though...just make sure you pick a specialty because you enjoy the work and not for the lifestyle.

I am considering radiology, and I have been hearing rumors about radiology and exposure. I hesitate to even mention it, because it sounds like an urban myth, but I've heard that long term exposure can affect sperm count. Any truth to this ?
