I say we bring in Don King!

I have my money on Ramoray too. He doesn't take short cuts like BigFrank to acquire knowledge i.e. read BRS Pathology and First Aid. Ramoray has acrued real knowledge by reading textbooks.

Ha i almost took this as a complement- that is hwo used to blatent sarcasm making fun of me, i almost missed this subtle sarcasm! man i really must have come across as a tool on sdn this past while! But i still stand by harrisons🙂 and dont forget robbins, come on -add 7 or 8 reads per chapter and then you have my study method! i dont think i can hang with bigfrank so i even would bet against me here!

Don't forget that I am a master of PhotoShop -- it's amazing how easily I can change a "1" to a "6" 😉

You definitely lost your money. Ramoray is more about the glory of recognition for being on top than actually swinging for the fences on the exam. Bigfrank's average on all NBME exams is 99, which is quite impeccable (even though most of all SDNers would agree that Photoshop isn't too hard to manipulate). In a battle of wits and tongue in cheek, I'd give it to Ramoray. He can pull out a curse word or one-liner on anyone and not think twice about offending someone. Frank is too much of a niceguy and will let ramoray walk all over him. But frank won't care either way and will just keep plugging away at every shelf exam practice question he can get his hands on. Frank doesn't ask silly questions whenever he knows he can just do a quick search and find the easy answer. In terms of aptitude, it's probably a tie. Frank nails the most commonly tested material. Ramoray would ace the minutiae portion of the exams.

Did you really say that?

i cant believe the comment he made about not believing someone just cause he/she is from ROSS...

anyway, i'd bet $50 on Big Frank. 267 is hard to beat. if someone would care to match my bet with $50 on Ramooray, we can do this through paypal. i'll take the first reply to this thread accepting the bet. we can PM payment info form there

enjoy

It's kinda funny that everyone is putting bets on this given the content studied. Reading robbin's is overkill. I felt the path, was very manageable on step 1. It was my core, back to basic physiology and stuff like that where I fell off a little, though I did do well so I wasn't all that disappointed. So my be goes to the one w/ the best basic sciences core, not the greatest knowledge of path..... cecil's c'mon, probably a waste of time, maybe good foundation for 3rd year though I don't know??

To compare their scores directly would be pointless, it seems that though they both study for the same test, it is for different reasons.

Frank may have felt that he had to score high to be in the running for a comp. residency, especially since he's a DO student. Ramoray may think to hell with the ends, all that counts is the means. By undertaking his study supposed regiment, he feels that regardless of his score, he did not short change his medical education in the slightest as far as his step 1 prep.

What matters most is the insignificance of this whole discussion. I would pity the person who gets out of their preclinical years nothing more than the absolute memorization of FA, Qbank, and some asstd BRS - regardless of their step 1 score. And the person who is a walking talking Harrisons with a horrible score isn't too much better.

Why does everyone bash D.O.? I'm an M.D. candidate and I got the impression early on that D.O. was stereotyped as subpar. I haven't had much experience in making that generalization myself but I'd say it's definitely unfair to bias people who are D.O. candidates as less qualified physicians than M.D.'s. It's true that D.O. students tend to not fare as well as M.D. students on USMLE Step 1 but that's the average. That doesn't mean that there are not good, quality physicians coming out of osteopathic schools.

I, who will soon graduate with an M.D., have always been a strong proponent of the equality of allopathic & osteopathic physicians in the US. Perhaps this is where the confusion has come from. Couldn't agree more Pox.
