So I was thinking about this the other day… EC's are a pretty important part of one's med app. Another important part is the hours that come along with those EC's. Can't people just lie about the hours they spend doing research/clinical volunteering/community service and such? This crossed my mind and I was wondering if there is some sort of check up the app boards do to make sure one is not lying about their hours.

Thanks!

No one really knows what they do... I am sure they have a sharp eye if someone is lying. The truth will find itself out.

I mean, I'm sure there's a way to lie about it. Someone could say they were the president of an organization, even if they weren't. However, when they get an interview question that says "I see you were president for xyz organization, tell me about that..." and the applicant says a lot of oh's and um's and cant articulate it properly, then the adcoms will know. It's also very easy for them to reach out to organizations and simply make a phone call if they think something is fishy. The bad part is that once they do find out, the applicant will 99.9% be blacklisted from that school, and probably other schools as well.

Is it really worth the risk? No.

Ya I feel Kowk the adcom can tell just by how someone would describe his or her participation in an activity. For AMCAS, they also tell you to put down contact info of your EC supervisor. Which is kind of a way deter lying?
