I'm going to try to finish reviewing the rest of the bio material and ochem material and then just practice. But I'm almost done with the freelance questions in the TPR scienceworkbook. So its been going good. Already finished reviewing the physical sciences. I'm spending little time reviewing the material and the majority of it going towards practice because I reviewed the material before. Only spending more time where I have weaknesses.

People rave about Jones beach, but I could care less. If I want to go to the beach, I hit the Jersey Shore.

I had a problem with that too. When I first got my current cell number, it must have formerly belonged to a drug dealer or something. Seriously. I'd get all kinds of weird random calls at all hours. I finally ended up putting it on buzz so that I could sleep. It doesn't wake me up unless I'm already kind of half-awake anyway. My mom didn't like that; she asked what she'd do if there were an emergency and she had to reach me in the middle of the night. I told her that in a couple of years, I'll have a beeper, and in the meantime, try not to have any middle-of-the-night emergencies that require me to drive or fly hundreds of miles immediately upon picking up her call. 😉

Normally I don't answer calls from numbers I don't know, but once it rang at 5AM on a Saturday from the lab. I had just joined the lab about a month or two previously. And I'm thinking, who the h*** is working in the lab at 5AM on a Saturday and calling me??? So I pick up the phone and on the other end is a lady with a very thick accent going, "Is this Quimmie?" And I'm like, WTF? Yes, it's Quimmie. No one has called me that nickname since I was like 5 years old. Anyway, turns out that one of the post docs had left a water condenser on, and the lab was just absolutely flooded. The lady who called me was one of the custodians. And she called me because no one's numbers were on the door like they were supposed to be, but I had given my post doc a copy of my schedule and my cell number on it, and she had pinned it on her bulletin board in the lab. So that was how the custodian got my number. I went over to the lab, saw the mess, and had to call my post doc b/c I didn't know the other post doc's number. She gave it to me, and about a quarter to six in the morning, I called him and made him come out to the lab. Then I went home and back to bed. Bizarre but funny. 😛

wow there is gonna be a computerized mcat in august only it will be the same as the paper mcat. i can't choose!! better stick with the paper don't wanna jinx myself with all that computer voo-doo. but i dunno i'm going back to the same testing site and what if they don't have air conditioning again? and if i take the computerized mcat there will be nice chairs, personal lockers, climate controlled environment, ear phones, valet parking. and i would be able to type my writing sample. although that is a long time to stare at a computer screen but will probably be done 2 hours earlier but it is a beta test and what if the computer crashes and loses all my answers. no bubbles that is a plus i wonder if i can play solitare during the breaks won't have a ton of annoying premeds surrounding me.

Mush, look, you know you have some damage control to do and that this isn't going to be an easy path, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. Nursing is very different than medicine. I'm not saying it isn't valuable in its own right, because it is, but it's not something you should do as a substitute for medicine. I really think you should re-take your organic and study for the MCAT and try for a DO school before you give up altogether.

😀 thanks guys. Just a little depressing. I think I'm going to transfer to a school thats here in my city so I don't have to commute. I put in an application and I just need to submit transcripts. I am going for the DO school but its just frustrating. Luckily for her, I ruled out nusring about 3 years ago.

She suggested doing grad school which I was going to do anyways but when I told her I was retaking most of the prereqs she said don't bother. The schools will know the diff btw community college and their school. Funny thing is I looked at the transfer guide for oklahoma state of higher education, and what do you know, they are all considered the same class. 😎

Just a frustrating battle when you are on your own and no one to really guide you. I'm my own advisor which can be good and bad sometimes. I'm my own worst enemy! 😀

I was pretty unimpressed with the advisor that I saw before starting this process. Really the most helpful person was REL. Why don't you PM him and talk to him? He's a really nice guy. Maybe he has some suggestions for you.

When I was a little kid Jones Beach was the spot. But then I learned all about the people who lived on LI and knew that JB was not the place for me. If I do head out to the island, I'm out in Montauk, or heaven forbid, the hamptons.

Gulf coast beaches are nice, I'll admit that. They don't compare to my lovely beach in Boracay 😎 and as much as I hate to admit it, I am a Jersey girl... and the shore will be forever engrained as my escape from hell... i mean work.

Used to happen to me all the time 🙁 Then I'd explain to him that we're only friends but he would then act all weird. I tried to just ignore it. Once while I was dating my first bf, 2 of his friends confessed their love for me while we were together. Then again this is also high school and puppy dog love. I think they liked me because I took care of them while they were drunk. 😎

Bio yr is officially over please i hope I get a grade 1. My throaat hurts and I have a fever, and i have to study for phys on fri. My problem: cant take drowsey meds cause I wake all night with them, anyone else like this or is it just me?

:laugh: nikki, less caffeine = good 🙂

just kidding. go for the CBT, i say. i wish i had done it. you get out so much earlier and you can time yourself. although i think the all computerized version starting in january will have most of the kinks and bugs fixed in it, so if you're not applying for 2007, it might be worth it to wait.

Haha, mine too. I sort of stumbled across the idea of MSTP on the internet when I was a sophomore, thought it was cool, and the pre-med advisor at my school had never heard of these programs. 🙄

Mush - you can do it, and no snotty advisory is going to stand in your way. I wonder how many people were told by their advisors they wouldn't have a chance at getting in to med school, and are now saving lives every second. Tell that to the person in the ER!

I know how that is... I sucked it up in January and drove over to Pritzker to talk to their director of admissions. Turns out he was REALLY nice and REALLY helpful. Much more helpful than the advisors at the university I pondered doing my post-bacc at. He actually suggested I do my own "post-bacc". Anyway, since REL is a regular SDNer, I'm sure he will help you! 🙂

sorry your advisor was so discouraging mushy 🙁

nursing is vital to medicine but if you had your heart set on becoming a doc, nursing isnt going to do it for you.

just focus on your objectives so you can get your career in medicine started, dont let anyone discourage you - focus and work your ass off so you can make it.

I spoke to the admissions recruiter at the local med school, she wasn't much help. I did talk to an admissions counselor at UMDNJ-SOM about 2 years ago. Tried to stay in touch with her but she never responded. 🙁

Plus at the local med school she was more concerned that my gpa wasn't meeting state minimum standards. I was a little put off by them. Then again, I heard they weren't the greatest. Med students are supposed to get themselves in no questions asked I suppose. 😎

I just hate to bother other people with my whole sob story which is why I just vent on my blog. I think those close to me are frustrated with me as well. As much as they want to help, they really can't. And I'm obsessive compulsive about it. Changing my mind in direction (for post bacc) every few weeks 😳

Life goes on. My life is a marathon 😀

I still haven't seen the inside of it! Thanks for asking! I close first thing tomorrow morning, and then will spend tomorrow cleaning it up and stuff. The movers unload on Friday.

There are 3 different Lost sites that I frequent, and they are all down right now. :laugh:
