Anyone have a good exercise plan for a woman to include machines and cardio to drop about 40 pounds (if I fall below 150 I look anorexic so I would ideally like to be at 160)? Monotony is ok - I just need something to tone/drop fat and can devote 5 days to the gym. HELP!?!?!?!

I lost quite a bit of weight in late high school/early college - went from 150-ish to 115 at my lowest. 115 was way too skinny in retrospect, I look best around 125-130 I think.

The main thing I did was start exercising, pretty much just cardio. I started out at 20 minutes a day and worked my way up to 45 minutes per day over several months on a Nordic Track (haha - remember when those were popular???). The only other thing I did was cut out soda, chips, fries, and other junk food like that. It took probably a year to a year and a half to drop all that weight so it was a slow process. I kept it off until I got married, though (and pregnant three weeks later) so I think the slow weight loss was good for me in terms of being able to maintain it.

Now if only I could get back down to 125-130. 😀 I haven't seen that number on the scale in over three years.

I have a facebook account, but I registered under Northern Illinois, where I was taking some post-bacc courses since that's the only university I have a valid e-mail address at. However, I spent 6 years at SIU for a couple degrees and know many more people there, but since I don't have an e-mail address there, I can't make it my "home" school.

I don't like that about facebook. And, since I like to blog and use SDN, I really don't have time for much more on the internet🙁

Yeah, I had the same problem. I wanted Bezerkeley to be my home school, but I graduated over 3 years ago and my e-mail addy from there stopped working a long time ago. 🙁

it's interesting how they decided to do that. i guess it makes sense...they want to prevent random perverts from signing onto a school's network by requiring them to have a valid e-mail address (not that there aren't perverts within a university, anyway).

And I didn't know what a Moebius Strip was until I met my husband. He told me about them and I decided it would be my next dogs name!
🙂
so is the dog's name moebius strip or just moebius? 😀

anyway, i better get back to working on my AMCAS stuff. maybe 10 years later i'll actually be ready to apply for med school.

I tried to mow the lawn. Usually, I am a pro at this....I actually enjoy it! 😛 But, this time...I can't tell if I bent the blade and sent the mower into fits of blowing smoke OR just caused the smoke. The grass is way too high and a bit wet as well. I probably shouldn't have tried to mow it in that condition, but I thought that the neighbors would begin talking. Anyway, the back is mostly mowed, but the front hasn't been touched...the mower won't start again. Ooops.

His registered show name Moebius Strip. We just call him Moby at home, though.

I'm going to upload pics of him to my facebook account. (and my other silly dogs).

Oops! We just have a push mower so I don't have to worry about mowing wet grass.

Seriously, though - what is it with you and setting things on fire? First your kitchen and now you almost did it to your grass!

I need to mow my lawn today. I'm sure we'll be getting a nasty letter from the stupid homeowner's association if I don't do it soon.

I KNOW! I am beginning to scare myself!

We bought a push mower when we moved into this house, but the weeds overpowered it...it looked like we hadn't mowed at all!! We were trying to be environmentall friendly, but phhhuuttt! It didn't work.

Oxeye, is the baby in the picture at the wedding (w/you') the same one in your avatar? She is adorable!! I agree with whoever said that she has the quintessential "I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE" look in the wedding pic!

No, that's my older daughter. She's the same age in that picture as my younger daughter is in the avatar, though.

She's so funny - she *always* has that glaring expression out in public. She was suspicious in public as a baby and she's still suspicious as a 2 year old. 😉

Ooh, yeah the push mowers don't get the weeds very well at all. My husband always ends up getting those with the little hedge trimmer thing that we have.

We got the push mower because we are cheap not because we are particularly environmentally conscious (though my kids do wear cloth diapers, so that works, hehe). And then there's the fact that our front lawn is only about 100 square feet, if even that. 🙂 We don't have a back lawn yet. It should be in by the end of the week, though.

i thought i knew the guys in the theater department!

he graduated the same year as me and i still can't place him 🙁
he was in a history of violence

It's slow here this morning. I guess I should get off the computer and do something productive - like clean.

I hate cleaning!!!!

It is incredibly slow in here. Last night, I left and it was hoppin'... 2 hours later...zippo...nada...dead. Feast or famine.

My former mentor at my research lab has 2 babies too.

His daughter is now almost 4, but his younger was born this semester some time. A few months old. I don't know exact age.

but the older one was wayyyyyyyyy hyper compared to the younger one who is sooooooo quiet. The older one is still as hyper as ever.

Your talk about the differences between your two girls reminded me of that.

Your older daughter looked really angry in that pic you had up. It was kinda funny!!! 😛

This other girl of yours seems more calm and collected, and just bewildered and curious.

they've actually changed that feature now. you can add multiple schools under your facebook account.

lucky me, i've stayed at the one school 😳

Yeah, but I want to make SIU my main school, but since I registered under NIU, they won't let me change. 👎

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! As long as you're okay!! I had a mower hit a rock into my leg once, lots and lots of blood. You didn't get burned or anything did you? :scared:

I actually have two face book accounts, one for the school I'm at currently and one for A&M. The A&M one is the one I actually use, and I mean use in the losest sense. I log on about once a month. In fact I had about 5 "pokes" waiting when I logged on last night!

I know! I was all about the marathon chat. And then nothing... so sad!! But for some reason I slept til noon today (I missed church too!!) dunno what that was about - I got off the phone with my boyfriend at midnight so I didn't stay up that late.

So funny that you can get all that from pictures but it is completely accurate. My older daughter has always been very suspicious, rarely smiles in public, and absolutely will not talk to people she doesn't know.

My little daughter is very inquisitive and social. She smiles and giggles for people she has never met and wants to get into everything. 🙂

It's amazing how different they are even when they are so young.

The best part about being facebook friends with Oxeye are the baby pics!!

I think that look on your baby's face is adorable, in that "I don't know about this" kind of way!

Ouch!!!!

Okay lawn mowing is dangerous. Maybe I should tell my husband that it will be his job from now on. He won't want me to hurt myself.

Sorry I need to rant for a second: I really hate when I try to be helpful and people jump down my throat. I just got totally b!tched at by a newbie for being "catty" when I was just trying to show her how the search function works. SERIOUSLY - I makes me want to never respond to questions if I'm only going to be my head bitten off.

No, I am totally fine. 😍 Instinctively, I always close my eyes when something like that goes awry. 😛

Ana, I promise to get to your PS. I am so sorry I haven't thus far. The pace that we have been keeping driving back and forth and working w/o sitting and then sleeping on an inflatable bed while we are working is catching up with me. So much left to do before move day (5/27).

Do you have any revisions yet? I would love to see where you are now.

First of all, newbies need to serve their time. (I consider myself to still be doing so.) Back her down.

Secondly, I understand how frustrating it can be to get the response "Do a search." I have tried MANY times and it doesn't return anything useful. Either it is me or the thing needs a once over. Perhaps she is having the same problem that I do?

Don't worry, we got ur back....do we need to remind you of our gang's abilities? :meanie:

this is why i stay away from pre-allo. i don't think i was ever really into that forum. i was a lounge girl 😎

I guess maybe I just have mad searching abilities :meanie: just kidding. It really helps if you go to advanced search and choose just to search in Pre-allo, cuts down on the number of results. After being a ugrad enlish major, I became very intimate with Google. :meanie:

No worries - I have a few revisions. If you want to see those I'll type those up later this afternoon. I just want to say thanks again to everyone for their feedback! I really appreciate.

I know feeling. I was just joking with Nikki in another thread on this MCAT forum, and some person named Percy started attacking me by saying it was the dumbest thing he'd heard. I was just joking around in an inside joke manner which you'd have to read the rest of this thread to understand. So I totally understand your sentiments. Some people need to stop acting soooooo uptight.

Around the time MCAT scores will be coming out. 😛

On a more serious note, I was going to begin studying for MCAT this weekend, but will do so starting tomorrow officially. I might not be around much except during the night from tomorrow onwards. Just letting you peepz know. Don't be too chatty without me, otherwise it might take forever to read all your posts. Just kidding. 😛

I don't eat steak. Seriously, I am not a veg or anything but I have never liked steak. Grosses me out. Being Texas born and raised, with a lot of cowboys and ranchers in my family...this is not looked upon favorably. :meanie:

Ok, the dude's CHOSEN screen name is PERCY! What the heck kinda name is PERCY? I went to elementary school with a girl whose last name was Percy. She was a bit creepy too.

Percy - it even sounds uptight. Back off PERCY.... guju's got a posse! :meanie:
