3rd time is a charm! 🙂 Welcome to the best thread on SDN: The Random Non-MCAT thread--PART 3!

This is a place to chill and talk about anything besides the MCAT. 😎

yay. kitties can come home after 1pm today! They are still sick though. 🙁 boo on reactions to vaccines.

I'm wondering if i should switch vets again (this was a new vet) b/c of the type of vaccine? I am getting the vaccine info and lot# and reporting to the USDA and the other organization which you have to report to since most vets don't report reactions.

We had a cat that would have horrible reactions to certain vaccines. They would have to keep her overnight. The first time it happened it was horrifying because she started foaming at the mouth and shed tons of hair--very very strange--like exorcist kitty :scared:

but was she ok overall? I know some cats are more prone to reactions than others but I just don't know what to do about it. She said next time they need to give steriods with the vaccine to control the vaccine.

hi to all- popping in for a sec-

mush- glad the kitties will be home

beary- sorry about the shirt. I've done the same. and I'm wearing a white blouse today and they day's still young, so it's entirely possible I WILL do the same before I get home.

megboo- hola. I need to email you.....

guju- hello! and mush was right on in her answer to you. serious pathology going on there, and not the type beary likes to deal with.

Which thread is this?

I'm angry this morning. I feel like arguing with people. 😡

You might like this one...1Path is trying to make the case that women should not expect to be a doctor and have a decent family life as well. But it might be futile to make her change her mind. For a while, I actually thought it was a guy making those arguments (a la LaDoc)

I'm sorry that you are angry. What's wrong?

Can I ask you later today for some statistical advice? 😉

Like, for example, what is the difference between univariate analysis and multivariate analysis? Other than univariate presumably being one variable and multivariate being more than one? 😀

The advantage to the multivariate analysis is to 'control' for other things you may not be interested in. For example, say you're interested in the relationship between smoking and low birthweight...but there are other risk factors that you want to account for. With a multivariate analysis, you put in all the other variables (i.e. confounders) in the regression. You can then describe the magnitude of your key risk factor (smoking --> LBW) independent of all other confounders. If you just did a univariate analysis, then other variables you didn't account for (i.e. maternal age) may distort the key relationship you're interested in.

Its offical.

Lance Bass from N'Sync is gay.

 Its funny b/c my sister was a huge nsync fan, but for JT, not LB. She just text me it and its confirmed by msnbc and abc that I found on their websites. ha.

Oh, just some crap going on with "friends" of mine. One of my playgroup friends apparently doesn't like me. She invited other people in the playgroup to her son's birthday party but didn't invite me.

Not very bright - like I wasn't going to find out when we have the same friends.

🙁

Sure - just keep in mind it's been almost 4 years so I've really used my statistics knowledge. 😉

What type of project is this for?

 Not only that, but a homewrecka. He split up the couple from Amazing Race 4 to get his current significant other.

 blueberry season is in june though so I guess I'll have to wait now.

THE KITTIES ARE HOME! 😍

Oh and as for Lance Bass, you guys are funny Dr. D and SM. I saw he was dating the guy from the amazing race. Apparently he was outed in the beginning of july by being spotted in a gay club and just decided to fess up.

Which brings a good point that this article from abcnews brings up? http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=2189570&page=1

When is privacy, privacy? Such as outing a celebrity as gay? Who they are dating? Even where they live or where their kids go to daycare. What is enough and is it fair to the people that are thrusted into the spotlight?

Wow Canuck, pretty pedantic for this thread. Who'd have thought I'd learn something here? 👍

LOL. Thanks....I think 😛

I'm in a stats-related MSc program, so I've had this stuff crammed into me for the last year or so. I'm just glad when I can have something to show for it 😀

oxeye - women are so caddy. And stupid. Amish gang, shall we reunite to give some paybacks? :meanie:

I posted about the thread in non-trad, but then realized you were talking about my "friend". Seriously, you are so right.

My daughter's bithday party is on Saturday. I didn't invite anyone from the playgroup because I just wanted a small party with family and close friends, but now I'm tempted to invite everyone in the playgroup but her. 😉

Ehh, that thread didn't really make me that mad. Different people can handle different things. I think I'm done with my two kids because I can't see myself handling 3 or more during med school, residency, etc. But that absolutely does not mean that another woman wouldn't be able to handle it. We're all different in terms of what is the most we can handle.

I know a mom of 8 on one of my parenting message boards. I have no idea how she does it. I wouldn't do it. But she seems to handle her life amazingly! There are moms on that same message board with 1 or 2 kids who sound like they are going to crack from the pressure a lot of the time! Again, we're just all different.

1path needs to get of his/her high horse and realize this.

Thank you SO MUCH!!! 👍 I'm looking at time to positivity of blood cultures in relation to clinical outcome, and want to exclude the billions of other factors that affect clinical outcome.

That was totally clear and makes 100% sense. Greatly appreciated.

Thanks, but Canuck helped me out. I was reading about it and just getting this highly detailed technical stuff but didn't understand the basic fundamental difference. Now I'm good.

Well, for now. Will probably have more questions by tonight. 😉

It's really ashame how little stats I learned during my Ph.D. Actually learned NO formal statistics - just had to teach myself what I needed to know.

But now I have you folks, so I'm good. 😀

Seriously - stats needs to be a big part of any research training. 👍

now now, do unto others as you would have others done to you 😉

But I totally can understand with the children issue. I had been advised to even have children FIRST. But i'll be a little too old then, so I'm just going to manage both. 😉 Plus then by the time they hit their teens I'll be a practicing physician and have a little more flexibility to handle the rough spots. 😀 Just my outlook though.
