My grandmother told me she had a fright on her wedding night.

I was like, why are you telling me this?

Ewwww!!!

My grandmother is gross. My sister was talking to her one day and said "You know, there's just something about a man in uniform."

My grandmother's response - "No honey - men OUT of uniform"

Ewww, grandma!!! Nasty!

You know what my favorite word is? Quintessence. I wrote a report about it in eleventh grade. It's a beautiful word.

I am also rather fond of "pedantic," although I hope I'm not. 🙁

Aww, that was my dog Tessy's real name - Quintessence. 😀 She died last year. *sniff sniff*

I just cannot fathom having that conversation with either of my grandmas when they were alive. No.Way.

Geez, just as I was starting to feel bummed out at the possiblity that I could be a pedant, I remembered another favorite word of mine: scatological. I always tell this story to my MCAT students when I warn them not to use words they don't know in their essays. No one ever knows what that word means. So I ask what they think it means, and most of the time they think it means something to the effect of "scattered." As in, "I have scatological interests." Only problem is that scatological does NOT mean "scattered." It means "obsessed with excrement." 😀

Neither can I. BLECH!!! I'm glad it was my sister's experience.

My grandmother was a slut in her youth from what the family tells me. Seriously - it's just hard to imagine your grandmother that way but then when she makes comments about men out of uniform .....

:barf:

Hmmm, my dog has scatological interests.

I like the contrast between "scatological" and "eschatological."

well the deal with my family is that my brother and I are both adopted. therefore, it has been well-established that our parents never had sex. EVER. we don't have to have those creepy "ew, god" thoughts that all of you biological children have!

July 10th - 30th. If anything I could use some transportation tips.

Are you flying into SFO?

Unfortunately, public transportation around Stanfurd sucks. I think the train goes pretty close, though and there is a shuttle that will take you from SFO to the closest train station if I remember correctly. I only did that once, though.

I'm flying into San Jose. I have transport covered from the airport to the hotel. I will just need to figure out the bus schedule to get around for a week or so.

Sigh. When I asked my parents, they told me I was hatched. I have SUCH natality envy.
