The things the med administrators continually pat themselves on the back about--but aren’t that well publicized--seem to be:

StarPanel – One of the nation’s first completely paperless (ie computerized) combined medical records and order system in a major medical complex.

Satisfied Students – They rank at the very top nationally in various types of polls

Funding – They had the largest national percentage increase in NIH funding last year

EMPHASIS – Their mandatory mentoring/research program where you pursue a scholarly project of your choosing. Can be “humanityish” if tangentially related to medicine.

Talk about how much you are impressed with Nashville too. I know most advice on here seems to be avoid discussing the school’s location as a reason for applying, but Vandy is sore about losing out a lot of good people to the northeastern megalopolises.

When I come up with more dirt, I'll be sure to let you know. 👍

Another idea if you haven't done it; send a thank you card as a reminder

If you have done that, I would probably call first.

I like the card idea, I'm just afraid that wouldn't stress the time-sensitivity enough. I'll get my secondary in a couple weeks and want to send it and the letters in ASAP afterwards.

I guess I'll be calling him tonight. 😉 I'm so weird about the phone. I always think I sound like an idiot. :laugh: I'm much better at things in person.

Yea I totally understand, I HATED getting those LOR's in because two of mine just kept putting it off and it was so frustrating. I sent one an email and he was very nice and apologetic.....I think yours will be too, especially since he is an MD and knows how important it is.....I think the call will be fine 👍

I hope he understands! His letter is the most important one I think. The school specifically requires a letter from an MD and he's the only one I've had clinical experience with. The others are professors - if one flaked out I could easily replace them with a different professor but they were all great and got the letters in right away. 😉

Wow, reading this just scared the crap out of me......I didn't even check the schools I applied to to see if they required a letter from an MD :scared: I have the usual: 3 science profs/advisors, 1 non-science, 1-research mentor, .....well it's too late now, I will just wait to get rejected if that's the case 😳 :laugh:

Yeah, it was the doc that was the worst for me, too.

I asked pretty early, reminded him every two weeks when I saw him at work, progressed to phone calls, and finally wrote him a letter begging for him to get it done.

It was hell.

The professor whose wife is a cardiologist was the worst in procrastinating with my LOR. He spent more time trying to talk me into being a Dr^2 than he did actually sitting down and writing the damn thing. 🙄

Ugh, that sucks!!! I haven't seen him for 3 months now. He told me when I finished my shadowing that he'd write the letter and I gave him the form, envelope, etc. And 3 months later, nothing. I'll call him tonight (or go see him tomorrow if I can't get ahold of him by phone). Then I'll start begging if it isn't done by the middle of the month.

The recommendation letters are the worst part of applying I think. I hate that my application is so dependent on these other people.

it's my own stupid fault......I am pretty sure a required MD letter is not the norm......at least I hope so :laugh: :scared:

Okay, I just checked the website. The physician letter for this school is recommended, not required.

I have to take more poor little baby to get blood drawn soon. Her ped does a CBC at a year old on all her patients. I asked her to add the test for fifth disease, to see if my daughter exposed my pregnant sister a few weeks ago.

So that'll be fun. Poor thing got two shots this morning too.

She's almost 20 pounds, though. 😀 Amazing considering she was only 5 pounds exactly a year ago. And she's grown 13 inches in a year! 😱 All on breaststicks I might add .... :laugh:

I hear you. This whole EDP thing is freaking me out. I don't even have a secondary yet, but they need to give me a decision two months from today!! 😱 Actually, October 1 is a Sunday, so probably the Friday before.

So nerve-wracking.

how can you tell who has the most post in this thread? I know I can hold my mouse over the thing and find out how many I have in there, but how can I tell how many others have?

In the main MCAT forum, click on the link that shows the total number of posts in the thread. A window will pop up showing you the break down by poster. (Nikki is kicking my butt!)
