True. I guess what I find surprising is that I expect that out of premeds. But for some reason I don't really expect to find a lot of med students and residents perusing such forums as often as many of the regulars do because none of my friends from where I actually live ever really perused these forms and mroe often then not just lurked and stopped using SDN after med school started.
med school guju is like highschool, people regress.

think about it, you're spending 4 YEARS with the SAME 150 people or whatever. totally like highschool.

you're right though, very few med students that i know still look at SDN and those that do look at the USMLE or residency forums. the only reason i'm still on here is because i'm a mod, otherwise there would be no reason for me to be in the premed section anymore. its funny though, a lot of people that i've talked to know about sdn from when they applied to med school but the overwhelming majority havent been on for years and dont remember their usernames.

Hey, I always wondered...how does one become a mod anyway? Not that I want to be one....just curious?

most of the time it happens through nomination. if the site admins need mods they ask the current mods to nominate people they think would be right for a particular forum. then people talk about the nominee and if anyone doesnt think they'd be right, that person doesnt make it. if there are no objections, the person gets a PM asking them to become a mod. same things goes for smods, but there only the admins talk about it and promote whichever mods they think would be good as smods. smods are just like regular mods except they can post hold, ban, and do stuff like close or merge threads anywhere on sdn, not just their assigned forum.

there you go, now you know the secrets of the mods. 😉

oh ok. I thought it also had to do with your post count 'cause I could have sworn I saw a mod in one of the pre-allo threads with a post count of 100+.

There's no post limit, but you do have to have been around for a while. You can't join today and be a mod next month for the most part.

unless its a specialty forum like podiatry or something, those mods tend to have the fewest post counts but they are also practicing physicians so its kinda expected.

Right, I know there are a few exceptions who are residents like jocomama.

I was wearing shorts there in January. 😉

Ooohhh, I like that! I hate cold weather. I like it when it's not too hot and not too cold.

But Florida doesn't get the "not too hot" part. 😉

Seriously - you can't beat California for weather. 😛

It got into the 20s during winter in Gainesville, pretty cold. Right now in Orlando it's in the 90s, bleh, with humidity (the worst part).

California costs too much so I don' think it's worth it. 🙂 How much is your car registration? Mine's around $37. 😀

Oh my gosh, I've totally wasted my day and have not touch my M_ _T books at all. At least I'm going to have sushi tonight...yummy!!!!!!

Yeah, I definitely like California hands down except for the earthquake.....but I guess you get used to it!!!

Blech - my car registration is around $400 ...... but I don't live in California. 😉

And we get breaks with other taxes here so I can't complain.

Sushi is my favorite. I usually get the box from Publix of eel sushi. I went to Crazy Buffet here in Orlando a few days ago. $10 all you can eat, great food. Tons of sushi, a lot of other types of asian food. This isn't a cheap place either. Very nice, new, and clean.

Oh man eel is the only thing I don't like 🙁 but everything else is cool. I love the sushi with roe on top and one with spicy scallops....yummy!!!!! We go to this place where you sit by the bar and sushi goes around a converyor belt.

anyone feel like their test-taking mood is influenced by peripherally totally non-related things, ie the red sox beating the yankees?? i think fri's outcome could have some major impact on sat's performance... 🙂

I don't watch baseball. Johnny Damon is a Floridian! He went to the same high school as I did. 🙂

people are just venting, dont be scared off by them. everyone has bad days, weeks, whatever and then vent. med school has its great moments too, people just dont talk about those as much. 🙂

thanks a man, that makes me feel better. This really is a perfect place for venting and ranting and you really have to take some things with a grain of salt.

Man, the last time I was in Gainesville was in 1992. We were on our way to Orlando. I still remember staying in this nasty a$$ motel right across the Holiday Inn.

Try to slow down or try for 500? Yeah, I know SDN can be addicting at times. I did stop posting for a while though. I think it's this whole MCAT thing that started it.....too bad I'm not taking 'til Jan 😳 !

lol sorry there is a 20 second delay, but look at the other posts 😀

First post as a 500+

Good luck on your quest Rad!

Ah let's see:

Surprisingly, Eel is my favorite sushi and one of the only ones I can actually eat (other ones = crunchy roll and california roll)....Caterpillar roll (eel sushi surrounded by avocados = absolute favorite)

California > Florida, so of course, California costs more....no hurricanes in California 😀

I have a question: With all of the tropical storms in Florida, has Disneyworld ever been affected?
-Dr. P.

P.S.: Now that I'm 500+, expect a lot more of my randomite involvement.

Man...I know this is going to sound weird as hell but the reason why I can't eat eel sushi (though I've tasted it more than once) is 'cause I keep picturing the eel's face. I looks so weird and creepy....LOL!

I know what you mean. The first time I ate it, my friend said that it was "tender" teryaki chicken, and then the server asked if I wanted more eel...I was shocked, but still hungry, so I ate an eel and its brother.

I have to go to the doctor soon to get my physical. :scared:

I don't know why, but I'm always scared that they'll find something horribly wrong even though I'm usually healthy.

Is it ironic that I want to go into medicine yet I'm scared of being a patient? 😀

They've shut down some rides and shows til a regular thunderstorm goes by. Tropical storms usually means the parks close for the time. I used to live next to Universal Studios and they'd shut down the coasters til the random thunderstorm passes. They'd also shut the place down for hurricanes. It happened back in Fall '04 when we had 3 roll through Orlando.
