 Funny. That is what I'm planning to use as well as some "books" that were donated to me from kaplan. 😀
Seriously - I think classroom courses are only good for people who lack the self-discipline to study on their own or just generally do better when learning in a classroom environment. Otherwise - don't waste your money.

Yep, total rip off. Leave it to six flags to making sure they are the best at everything  What was top thrill like?

it totally rocks--top thrill and millennium force at cedar point are my fave rides. you have to ride that copycat if you go to 6 flags!!

I haven't been to an amusement park in almost 4 year. 😱 I went to Disney World for my honeymoon and since then have been either pregnant or not wanting to leave my kids all day to go.

These pictures make me want to go again!

Well you did still study for it ...

What did you use?

Didn't she use the AAMC tests and also Exam Krackers home study packet??? I think EK is good. I'm using their Gchm stuff to tie up loose ends in these last two weeks and its good review. I probably won't have time to do their 30 minute exams but I've seen quite a few things in their books that are like practice tests from both AAMC and TPR and more in depth then what's in the TPR book but good review.

You'll just have to wait til your kids are like 5 or so and then you can take them to disney world and Universal. If you have time you can even come down to Tampa to Busch Gardens. 😉 😉 😉

I just did a Google Earth and my house to Sandusky takes 7 hours 🙁 I really want to go to Cedar Point, I hear it's one of the best

 Maybe next summer we can have a randomite meetup at a theme park. I haven't been to one in ages because my boyfriend and my closest friend both hate rollercoasters. 🙁

sounds like a plan. I vote for either Cedar Point or Six Flags Great Adventure 😉

I cannot take this anymore. I am going to start looking for another job.

So:
1) psych residency
2) postdoc
3) pharmaceutical/biotech industry
or 4) something else altogether
or 5) work on my blackjack/poker skills and earn money through gambling and quit working all together.

or 6) marry a greek shipping heir so I don't need to worry about money.

Advice please.

You know what else totally sucks about this? You can't get advice from anybody higher up who actually knows what to do. Because you can't tell them until you're out the door.

this sounds serious. What happened?

I'm dead serious. I just talked to my mom about it. She is cool with me quitting. And my dad is in the pharmaceutical industry so he could help me with that route.

I think I have clenched my jaw so much that I broke a tooth.

Hard to describe "what happened," though that is a good question. Basically, I am totally aware that no job is perfect, but this is just miserable and absolutely 100% not what I want from my life. I keep waiting for things to get better. Tired of waiting.

well I'd go with psych residency, but I'm biased. it's still pathology, just a very different type.

The big things that turned me away from psych were:
1) I had already applied to path (inertia)
2) two months of neuro and two months of internal medicine, which are still major negatives
3) borderlines
and 4) psychotherapy. I don't like talking to people really. And even in the most biological of programs, you have to do psychotherapy training.

What I need to do is settle down and finish my damn grossing for the night. Nothing like having a big specimen unexpectedly dumped on you. I was very tempted to just quit tonight, but I am not going to do something that rash.

I am a hard-core academic type and used to think I would never go into industry, but it sounds relatively appealing to me right now.

Beary - in the path residency do you have to do an internship year? If so, maybe you could stick it out and then match to another residency type next year.

If no internship year, maybe you could find an open internship year and explore the rotations more to see if something else fits you.

Got my new computer up and running - loving the 19" flat screen monitor!

Now I've gotta transfer files from the old computer....

And get a different wireless/VoIP modem. This other one's FRIED.

Stupid lightning storms.

No, we don't have an internship year. So this year wouldn't count for anything else. That is a good idea though. If I am going to apply to psych residencies, it behooves me to get on that ASAP since ERAS opens in three weeks. But I just did ERAS. I would have sworn to you up and down that I was born to be a pathologist.

I told people that exact thing - "God made me to be a pathologist." I said that. *argh*

Is this the first nervous breakdown on SDN? 😳

1. it's a new year
2. out of 48 months, that's only 8.3%
3. I love them. Well, mine anyway. I know others who I wouldn't want to see to save my soul. We can chat off-SDN about this.
4. A friend/referral source feels the same way. 1/2 of my caseload is referred by her b/c she hates doing therapy, and usually only does 15 min med checks and does do IP work at one of the hospitals. She said she had to suck it up in residency, and was able to do the minimum necessary and get good supervision. Besides, it really depends on the client/patient. Sometimes I hate psychotherapy, too.

And don't forget all the research opportunities, you PhD, you.

beary--it's better to get out now if you're not happy--i can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. i would say greek shipping heir or psych--both great choices

Unfortunately, I just blew four years of my life on that dumb thing called "med school", waiting to be a happy pathologist. +pissed+ 😡 *cries*

OK I am going to do these damn specimens. I have gotta get out of here.

I'm voting for the Internship year. You can always go back to path! I know how you feel - I worry that 3rd and 4th year of med school won't be enough for me to figure it out.

Beary, you should keep your options open but not make any knee-jerk decisions.

holy crap beary--you didn't blow 4 years of your life!!!! You could go into psychiatry and do research and teaching
bingo

example- friend I mentioned above just gave me a DVD to watch about vagal nerve stimulation as a treatment for depression. psych has some really interesting research going on!

and I can think of 2 I know personally who are MudPhuds
