OB/Gyn. 🙂

What I plan to tell them is roughly this (and it's my actual feelings, no bs like some students do):

I volunteered at a level 1 trauma center in the ER CT scan room. That was what first got me interested in medicine (before that, I liked business a lot). This also led me to radiology. I also talked to a few radiologist several years later and one of my friends is a radiologist, so I know this field more than the rest (albeit not as much of course as a student in rotations).

The second experience I had was when I had my appendix removed. I talked with the general surgeon about his job before the operation (literally when I was in the OR on the table). I thought it was pretty cool that this guy left his family on a Sunday night to help me out, someone who he didn't know. I'm somewhat interested in surgery because of this and talking with him about the field.

Right now I'd be fine with either radiology or surgery because of my experience with them. However, my experiences are limited and I haven't tried anything else. I'm definitely open to anything else during rotations. That would be my response to them.

I'm not sure on what experience you've had with other fields in medicine, but maybe it's close to mine--limited. If OB/GYN is really the only thing you've done, then you could say something like I have.

wellll.. so I'm not a doctor nor do I pretend to be.. but caffeine is a stimulant, and the tremors are your physiological response to being deprived of the stimulant that it's used to.

google caffeine withdrawal and see what you come up with.

Let's not forget to mention the b*tching headache too. Those are the worst. Took me 4 tylenols (2 per every 6 hrs) to get rid of mine. It was awful!!

right- and we all know the best way to cure any kind of withdrawal, right?

have some more of the offending substance! (hair of the dog, people. hair of the dog)

are we really post-****** yet? I mean, we're trying, but are we really there yet?

and at what point will we know that we've made it?

An excellent question. First I thought getting 100 would be good, then 500, now 1000. Does it ever stop?

That is very similar to how I feel Williams. Ob/gyn is what got me interested in medicine in the first place. The vast majority of my clinical experience is related to Ob/gyn or women's health in general. So it is what I know.

Your answer seems like a good one. Of course I'm open to other fields. I don't know if I would like them or not because I haven't been exposed to them yet. It's kind of like when I was an undergrad. I thought I might be interested in psychology - in the course of doing the requirements for the psychology major, I discovered that like statistics a whole lot better. The same thing might happen with medicine, but going into it, I really like ob/gyn.

I just don't like the fact that I'm supposed to hide my early preference for the sake of appeared open-minded. Having a preference doesn't mean you are close-minded, you know?

I did a lot of shadowing with an ob/gyn. I asked him at one point if he knew what he wanted to do going into medicine. He went into it thinking he would do ob/gyn, and that's what he did.

And I really don't like sick (ie contagious) people - so that rules out quite a few specialties!! I definitely won't say this in my interview, though. Probably wouldn't come across the right way.

Woohoo!

I just checked my own post count. I'm less than 60 from 3000. I had no idea I was that close!

We need some extra special tunes for two Randommes hitting milestones together jlw!

well, 3000 definitely deserves something special... although it looks like we have some time.

Oxeye, if you can get 600 posts in before midnight, I'll have your first-born child.

wait........

of course, Dr. D's posts per day are way above mine.... I was a long-time lurker, rare-occasion poster..

Lately I've found myself only reading the twin Random threads. It's much easier to raise your count when not wasting time giving advice anymore.

When coupled with my early sprint in the countdown, I'm quite proud of my posts per diem. 😀
