because all of the items that needed to be washed, rinsed and packed neatly onto their respective shelves were purley decorative

That's really sad beary. 🙁

And what happened to the one you are doing tomorrow?? Is that person still alive with that much of his face missing?

Yep, big jaw and neck cancer. The ENT folks put a flap over it. Gotta be extremely disabling and disfiguring though. 🙁

So sounds like you kiddos are saying no kias. Consumer reports rated them decently. My mom has a 95 Toyota Camry and it's still running strong. Anyone know how much I'd be dropping for a Civic Hybrid? I discounted hybrids because I figured I couldn't afford them.

As far as the Yaris, a good friend of mine drove one in Belfast. It's a hella impressive car for the size. This is the first year they've sold them in the US right? I think I'll be buying used 🙁 Because I don't think I can afford anything other than a kia in the new category.

Mushy: I really like the Focus too. I think I may go test drive one at some point because I hear their engines don't have a ton of git-up.

The Civic hybrid looks like it's about $22k. I think I'd just end up getting a normal one.

I'm still curious about the Yaris too. If it has pretty good safety ratings it will be up on my list too.

I need to just take a bunch of trips and pretend like I'm interviewing in different parts of the country. 😉

This whole EDP, interview only in my home town kinda sucks in that respect. Well, I guess not the saving money part!

Question:

I am sort of nieve about this subject, but how common is it for women to have a baby during residency? Is it possible? If so, is it looked down upon or do women generally wait. Do women have children while in medical school?

My gf gets a little bit upset about this topic because the only thing that ever even came close to holding her back from medical school was the fact that she might not be able to have children young (like age 22-25). She has obviously accepted that for now, but I was just wondering if people still do it?

Please, please, please...I am begging you...don't let this question get so out of hand that it turns the thread into something that resembles the other five million of the same in pre-allo. Please. I love the Random thread.

Man, everyone has been telling me i'm not applying to enough schools. I am starting to get worried 🙁 I thought 13 would be enough, especially since only 2 of them are virtually guaranteed rejections.

Boo application process

I think we can all behave ourselves here. 😉 As long as certain other people don't come and join the thread .....

Well, I applied to one. 😛

And if I don't get in EDP, I'll apply to a grand total of two more.

Feel better? 😉

 oh I won't. I just wanted to hear the collective opinions of the ladies here, since there are so many of you. No need to continue the discussion, I just didn't want to post it over there because it would in fact get out of hand. 🙂

I provide full service pathology care. Last week, I diagnosed a guy's renal cell carcinoma (first diagnosis). Yesterday, diagnosed his lung mets. Today, did his autopsy. 🙁 Made me very sad.

I have the worst specimen EVER waiting for me tomorrow. It's basically half of a guy's neck and face, including major neck structures, jaw, tongue, etc. Not cool.

Whoa.

You are correct.. NO KIAS!

Consumer reports is on crack.

We just looked at one...a used one will run you approx $18-19K

btw, Fe - about your girlfriend.

I had my kids before medical school obviously - my first at 23, my second at 24 (almost 25). So wanting to go to medical school obviously doesn't have to keep her from having kids young if that's how she wants it. I took 5 years off after graduating, but that's not a big deal in the long run. And she wouldn't even have to take that time off if she doesn't want to. A supportive family and childcare can go a long way if she wants medical school and kids right away.

I thought I couldn't go to medical school if I wanted to have kids young also. I chose to have kids young because it was a bigger priority in my life, but then I realized that it didn't have to be one or the other.

Ok, really need a nap. I feel like a walking zombie. How pathetic. Today was a volunteer day and I am emotionally and physically zapped. Not to mention, I have veggie burger at lunch that tasted awesome, but didn't do such great things to my insides.

I will talk to you guys later.

Beary, sorry I didn't email. Hope you are having a fabulous day...well other than the whole 1,2, autopsy thing. Please let me know how things are going.

That's a good way to put it, thanks for your input 🙂

My girlfriend has a sort of paranioa about having children. Her mother had trouble getting pregnant with her younger sister and she is absolutely convinced that if she waits too long the same will happen to her. Kids are basically her life (she wants to be a pediatrician, surprise surprise) and it would devastate her if she couldn't. I keep telling her it's all in her head and her doctor says she has no reason to worry right now, but she talks about it all the time.

I can relate to her worry. I had three miscarriages before I was pregnant with my older daughter. After the second miscarriage I had myself pretty convinced I wouldn't be able to have kids. 🙁

Obviously I was wrong.

It's hard, though. I had a completely irrational obsession with getting, or really just staying, pregnant. So I understand that worry - even if people are telling you things will be fine.
