Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's the thread!

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

Congratulations to everyone who made Part 4 such a kickass thread!!!

And thank you to the ever generous, intelligent, lovely, and kind Nichole, who let me start the thread even though she won the last one. 🙂

What's so great about Duke? (not trying to make it seem like it's bad). Primary care school?

I like their curriculum and the fact they seem liberal with their money. They cram all their coursework into one year, thus giving you a year pretty much to do whatever scholarly work you like. I'm not up for being a Dr^2 like Tera, but I'd still like to do some intensive research.

yeah. and I've been to some of the ones around here with friends, but never on a specialty night.

I'm glad we're just having a cookout with your family. 😉

Do you know what time yet, btw? The Husker game is on national TV at 3:30 on Sat. so my dad is trying to figure that out. I will make him tivo it if there is a conflict and isolate myself from all news of any type so I don't find out. 😀

So your 2nd year is pretty much off to do anything you want?

How often does Medicare really audit people? I hear worries about this all the time. For example, the VA pays for some of the U Mich residents' time. Since they are a totally separate healthcare system. So technically, since the VA is paying my salary this month, I am supposed to be there all the time and am basically not even allowed to go to the U for conferences sometimes in case "medicare shows up" and I'm not there. 😕
I don't think it's often, and I doubt that I'm a big enough fish for them to try to catch me.. but if I were to be randomly picked, they could make my life hell if things aren't in order.

I get a little worried b/c I see one person a LOT. like every week for over a year. and this week twice. but if you met her, you'd know why. (and there's a crisis this week, which legitimizes me seeing her twice. usually I don't)

don't worry- I haven't been out with my out friends in quite some time. the gay bars are fun, but not terribly productive for any of us, least of all the gals.

They were the only place that rejected me pre-interview. 👎

I am still bitter, all these years later. 😳
 Northwestern is on my **** list for that. And especially for making me wait through the entire season before ultimately rejecting me. I don't think I'm ever going to forgive them 🙂

Within reason. 😉

You hit the wards on your second year then do your special project during year three. SDN gossip says cramming all the classroom work into one year costs students in board scores, but their projects more than make up for this come Match Day.

I don't care about your identity, I just don't want to know about hair in Places That Shall Not Be Named 😀

it's an exciting time for a young man... don't try to squash my thunder 😉

Duke rejected me pretty early. I actually vividly remember that because I was leaving for my Iowa interview that day, and got the little tiny envelope that I had been rejected and that made me all stressed.

Wow, looks pretty research intensive imo, even though not PhD. I'm aiming more towards primary care, but as long as you enjoy it, aim high!

Duke has a rather accelerated curriculum going for them, which can be good or bad depending on the person. It allows MSTP students to finish fast, though.

I just hope their secondary isn't as long as in the past.

If it helps you, imo, UChicago > NWern. 🙂
😍 Thanks! 🙂 When I was initially researching schools, I thought I was a much better fit for Northwestern (I'm very clinically oriented, not so big with the research that Pritzker is known for). So I was very puzzled. Ultimately, I do think it worked out for the best... the more I've learned about NW, the less I think I would have liked it... but that could just be sour grapes talking. 🙂

primary care ? what school are you trying to sell that too?

yeah, how are the AP classes supposed to go in?

Put it in the first semester of the institution that first accepted them. So say you went to U Maryland in 1999 freshman, but took AP in 1998 high school senior year. You put in Fall 1999 (freshman in college). It should show up like that as it is on your unofficial transcript if you can view online.

Duke's on my **** list from undergrad admissions though. More due to pathetic financial aid, even after the free t-shirt. 👎

What are the differences between the two Molly, besides their poor judgment in admission decisions? No one seems to have a good answer in pre-allo.

that does sound great. To bad I had no shot there:laugh:

Ha, not many! I like Mayo a lot, but I'm I did a couple years research in undergrad and it's not something I want to do for a career...It will be hard to sell myself, I know...
Totally depends on the school... lots of places will looooove your interest in primary care.

You better end up as a plastic surgeon in a lucrative LA practice and not some podunk family doc, or else there will be hell to pay with your agent and publicist who have rather large stakes in your future salary.

I just read about how you were more into clinical stuff, but UChicago is more research oriented. How did you work through that for secondaries/interview/etc if you don't mind saying? 🙂 You're giving me second thoughts on this place! 🙂

I think I'd make a good plastic surgeon, but for facial reconstruction only. 😉 I'd be terrible for breast augmentation. I wouldn't know when to stop putting in the saline!

But right now nothing decided. Only experience with rad and surgery, both I like so far.

Well, I'm pretty biased, obviously, but I think the patient population at Pritzker is better for learning, there are better dual degree and elective opportunities, and I truly feel that Pritzker is more student friendly. But I'm sure a NW person would tell you just the opposite. 🙂

Rads, surgery, and of course pathology are all acceptable. And while I don't know about jlw's opinion on the subject, I would certainly more than understand you slipping in a few extra cc's of saline/silicone. 👍

I wouldn't mind being a HO, either, like you said. Er, um, man ***** is the proper term in my case.

honey, I work with kids who have body image issues and are starving themselves or forcing themselves to puke. don't even THINK that I would approve of cosmetic plastics. boo hiss. bad call. try again.

Well said. I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. Who knows, maybe I'll apply to both. I don't know any SDNer who has gotten into both; maybe I'll just let them decide for me.

What about plastic surgery on reconstruction on people with deformaties or car accident victims?
