A few ground rules. Everything you post must be RANDOM and more importantly, only peripherally related to the MCAT. See my example post below. I now await Beary's shirtless pic of Carl Edwards. C'mon Beary, A-man is dying to see it. 😀

This is Ana's example:

My, factually, better examples 😀 :

Or pried open. I know of someone who crazy glued his eyes shut. I dunno wth he was thinking but if I were treating him in the ER, I would have a heck of a time trying not to laugh
oh man, that is craaaaazy!

thanks jlw! enjoy pushing electrons! don't push too hard! 🙂

haha, yeah, i've had several injuries, but nothing ever serious enough to go to the ER. even when i broke my ankle, we just thought it was a bad sprain, so i made a doctor's appointment for the next morning (where they took X-rays and found out it was actually a hairline fracture).

the only time i've ever been a pt in an ED was when i was 15 and had appendicitis. the freaks told me that it was probably just indigestion and to follow up with my primary the next day. when i saw my primary he told me in 5 minutes it was appendicitis and had me admitted to the hospital. that night i had emergency surgery and they caught it before it ruptured.

so yeah.....i'll try not to miss the hot appys if i end up going into EM.

what a freak!

thankfully someplace someplace has the number 1 ophthalmology program in the country on campus and that place has its own ED just for eye emergencies. if anything ever happens to my eyes i am so running over to that place. there are some scary things in ophthalmology, with a detached retina for example you only have something like 3 hours for them to save your eyesight. 😱

yes unfortunately i am still at the library. This whole unit we are doing now is genetics--and I seem to understand this stuff a lot better since I took a few genetics courses in undergrad. my day was ok......how are you doing? are you actually going to see patients tomorrow?

thats great that you have a strong background sweetie, that always helps.

i'm ok, saw my family this weekend. its like a ritual every 2 weeks.

i dont know if i'll see patients tomorrow or if it'll just be orientation, depends on the rotation.

wow, crazy! i'm actually going to see my PCP tomorrow morning, so I'm for sure going to ask her to check on the eye.

wow, that's hard core!! *searches for cheap flight to someplace*

He wasn't the brighest crayon in the box, that's for sure.

That's scary about the detached retina. How would that happen?

which reminds me, i added photos to my myspace page since you guys had been telling me to do it for months.

omg if i saw you on the street i would jump on you

*goes home to take cold shower*

btw we have two phone booths exactly like that in our library--people go in them to use their cell phones.......seriously!! those pictures are all great--i'm very jealous of your european adventures

High gravitational forces. Happened to a guy who put himself on a rocket on a railroad type track.

I guess the same could happen in bad car wrecks where g-forces are high.

Ah, makes sense. I've heard of damage to the cornea, but not so much with the retina because it's at the back of the eye.

Now I thought crazy glueing the eyes shut was not-so-smart idea, but rocket on a railroad track trumps that I think

I was just thinking today and can anyone help me with this question. Who has the most posts in SDN right now?

Ick. I hate the taste of blood. What happened??

When I had one of my wisdom teeth removed, I couldn't feel it being extracted. I could of course feel the force the dentist was using to remove it, but I knew it had come out when I could feel my blood pouring all over my tounge. LOL! It felt kind of cool actually (serious).

Ah man, that would not be good. I'd probably be ready to puke. Thankfully, mine were impacted so I had to be put completely out. I think the last words out of my mouth b/f the anaesthsia was "I didn't get my cup of coffee this morning..."

I have a thrush (a fungal infection). It's because I've been on psycho antibiotics for a few weeks.

Ah. Does it hurt? Weird that a antibiotic makes you more susceptible to a fungal infection 😕

I hate the crazy antibiotics. Actually, when my wisdom teeth were taken out, they gave me some antibiotics that wreaked havoc on my GI system. It was horrible. I was also doped up on Tylenol 3's. Worst couple of days ever.

The antibiotics kill off all your "good" bacteria in addition to the pathogenic ones. That allows the fungus to overgrow.

Yea, I remember this from my biochem class. It also kills the bacteria (that you say is "good") that makes some vitamins for you. So you will have deficiencies and different strands of bacteria could be made after you're off the antis.

oh gawd beary--i'm sorry! my little bro got really sick with the flu one time and got something like that--it looked so painful--i hope you start to feel better🙁

Ah, I must not have been paying attention in my biochem class...many years ago now

Sometimes I wonder if these major sports series aren't rigged. It took 7 games for the Cards to win, going back and forth with the Mets for winning games. Now it looks like the Tigers have the upper hand in this game and again we have the back and forth issues.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm.......!

Check out the new pics of the kitty in my blog!

Also, I'm reworking my formatting, so my links section is gone. It will be back up shortly for those of you who have blogs I've linked to. My friends like to read your blogs so I need to get them back up!

I'm thinking it's because the Tigers had a lot of time off. The Cards were still probably on that high from beating the Mets. We'll see how games 3 and 4 go and your theory will be compared.
