A few ground rules. Everything you post must be RANDOM and more importantly, only peripherally related to the MCAT. See my example post below. I now await Beary's shirtless pic of Carl Edwards. C'mon Beary, A-man is dying to see it. 😀

This is Ana's example:

My, factually, better examples 😀 :

Alright, for that last part...

The angle of the wing affects both drag (resistance for forward progress) and downforce. The wing is the inverse of an airplane's wing. An airplane creates lift, but the F1's wing creates downforce. Pushing it to the ground. This force increases the traction. It allows the car to go around corners MUCH faster than a car without that downforce. However, it's a balancing again, just like fuel loads and tire wear. The more downforce you put, the more drag you have. The more drag, the slower you can go at higher speeds (when the "wind" is faster). At high speed circuits where top speed is crucial, the angle of the wing is reduced so little drag is created, but there's less downforce. Teams must decide on how much "wing to run." Just another of the hundreds of freakin' variables it takes to win.

that's what I'm talking about... I won't be really in to this, until I fully understand it to the level you explained... I hated baseball for the same reason for a while. Until I played and learned it. Same thing with football. Rugby, I rented a video game and learned from that 😉... I just need to do the same for F1... I have a feeling it'll be my toughest challenge yet...

speaking of which... how did you get in to F1 in the first place ?

Edit: Think of the wing as a wall. So when you turn the wall completely upright, the wall it being hit dead-on with the created wind. It slows down the car. Just like an airplane opens the flaps when landing to slow it down. You put the wall completely flat and the wind isn't slowing it down.

yes, I know how it *basically* works... I want to get to the point where I can say "that guy f'd up in the tilt of his wing, blah blah"

physics and sports together are fun, though 👍

I edited my post with extra a little bit of more explaining, but I think you got what I mean. There's another type of downforce. Called "venturi" tunnels. The bottom of the car is shaped to create pressure differences so it "sucks" the car to the ground. That's why at some street races, the man hole covers have to be welded to the ground so this venturi effect doesn't suck the 50lb+ metal covers off, which can happen. There's no drag for this effect...

I enjoy playing baseball. I watch a few games, but I rather play. That's the way it is for most sports. Some football (soccer) games are interesting, but I prefer to play. I can watch just about any sport. Gymnastics, ice skating, even that curling crap.

Not sure how I got into F1. None of my friends watched it. I know that the 2001 season was the first I started to watch. The only team I could relate to was BMW because I always liked that company (I like Ferraris, but rarely saw one on the road and can't relate to it). I still think about how I got into this thing...it's odd.

Edit: I see you spotted the edit.

Oh yeah! It only takes 5 minutes to unflag. Then I killed that night elf. 😉

good stuff 👍

I used to play a MUDD back in the day (like early 90s, multiple user dungeons and dragons (online)) and it took 1/3 of your experience every time you died... 😛 I'm glad WoW is not that vicious

Man, I still can't believe I haven't seen a race in person yet. I had tickets to the USGP for 2004, but pulled the trigger on those too quickly. Didn't get plane or hotel reservations quickly enough. 😳 It was my favorite driver's last year with BMW Williams and now he's in NASCAR. Anyways, he was disqualified from the race because his spare car didn't have the proper sticker on it to approve for racing--lame. And his teammate slammed into a wall backwards.

I can only watch video of them. 19-20,000 RPM must sound insane in person. Those bitches idle at 8k dude. My car redlines at like 6,600! 😱

NASCAR is putting a wing on the cars next year.

I don't like it. Doesn't really look like a stock car. But supposedly will create better racing.

Do you have an article about it? The only "better" racing I can imagine would be more traction at the rear wheels or more air disturbance for drafting. *possible* if there is a spec rear wing, that they would get rid of that rule they have. Where the actual car you can buy in the showroom must have the same rear deck dimensions as the racing stock car. Chevy guys were pissed with the Monte Carlo's rear deck shape (like 3 humps or something). If it's a spec wing, they no one would have to worry about that...

try this out... it's a free download of a 10 year old game... but I'm using it to build up my knowledge of the sport. maybe you can decipher some things for me

Heh, I'm actually downloading the F1 race from Sunday right now so my computer is being used quite a bit. 1.4 gigs from an ITV rip. ITV is the UK broadcast, 2.5+ hours of real coverage. Not this BS Speed TV non-sense.

Edit: I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm done with this.

beary... I'm about to get back on the big computer... If you still want to tutor me, say something in the next 10 mins, otherwise I'll just play Civ 4 for the next few hours 🙂

hola Fe! how's it hangin?

Hola Senti 🙂 I'm just super bored. I'm in my second day of this Agile training. They make us sit through the whole day and listen to lectures and do these "labs" The thing is, they have a really great manual and what we do in 8 hours I could probably learn on my own in 1 or 2 from reading it.😴

Those August MCATers need more spam in their thread. They are weak in the ways of post-whoring compared to April.

Thunderdome: Two people enter, only one comes out.

BB aptly dubbed pre-allo the "Thunderdome" when he was made an advisor of it.

Man so out of bordem and anxiety of waiting for results I read through almost all 11 pages of score release from June 20th release of April 2006 scores. It was funny to see your post as the first score on there.

Its funny to see some of the anxiety posts on there about getting in and now some of those same people have gotten acceptances in hand (EDP) while others are soon to find out acceptances and have had tons of interviews in hand.

Like RajaD10 who got in USF and was sort of anxiety driven by the 7 in Verbal.

I swear reading old MCAT score release threads and looking at people's posts a few months later when they have acceptances is quite entertaining in a weird sort of masochist way because it shows how much difference a few months can make.

Ha, I did take some small measure of pride in being the first to pounce on that thread. It certainly was one entertaining and ecstatic night. Afterwards though, I thought to myself, "Hmm, maybe I should have held off." Not everyone was thrilled with their score and I didn't want to intimidate anyone from joining in the release party.

I'm sure you did great. I'm looking forward to seeing "how much difference a few" days make for you. 😉 :luck:

What is it now?

40 and VERY WINDY right now. Tonight, mid 20s. It is supposed to warm up this weekend.

I will keep you folks updated early next week though - if it is this cold you need a coat. I am always hot, and wore a blouse, sweater, and fleece, and froze my a@@ off on the walk in from the parking garage.

All right, off to get my IV, and get some narcotics!

Did you actually post the number in the post the first time around or did you just make a random post to reserve that spot?

I'll let you know if we have triplets. 😉

Yeah, it snowed this morning here, too. about 1/4 inch stuck but is melted now that the sun is out. It's about 35 degrees here and very windy.... brrrrrr!

Hmm it was cold and a bit windy here too. Although it was 60 degrees in the morning. And I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals 😛

Yup, this where you can really get that post count up. 😉

Great school you go to, btw.

Thank you, sir. and you too! GO BEARS!

I need to boost my post counts here. I have like 4000+ post counts on some stupid car forums. lol

You think German horses are stronger than Japanese ones? lol

Heh, I think you mean "lady" and not "sir."

Nice choice on the Bears. Yes, I also have many posts on car forums.

you must be! I can tell u from the location where you live.

so 6speedonline? e46fanatics?

lol, man...I'm registered to so many forums, but don't even post. Just do it to see pics most of the time.

I dont' think I'm registered on 6speedonline. I am on E46fanatics, but only to make a single post on a guy who did that S54 engine swap into his 323i (MITE46 is that guy's name). Also on M3forum.net, but only because my friend wanted me to see Tony Kanaan's car pics so I had to register.

I'm on a couple other sites for 3+ years now and still don't have as many posts as I do here. LOL!

Waiting for mcat results made my posts go like 😱
