how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

not nagging, just curious- are you complete at WU? or did you decide not to finish the essays?
Not complete - ugh. Not even sure I can be complete at this point. I'm getting kind of tired of this whole process. Just let me in to a school and get on with this whole learning how to be a doctor thingie.

Talking to Evo yesterday about med school made me really excited about getting started and it just feels like next August will NEVER come.

I hear you. The other night at the hospital, I was just mesmerized by listening to one of the attendings teach one of the residents about a procedure. I'm sure they thought I was insane b/c I was totally listening in and staring *just a little* and I'm sure the rest of the people in my department could care less. But I just wanted to soak in whatever I could, you know?

Your time will come soon Ana. They are probably still looking at your mcat score like this 😱 (frozen) It might take some time, but they will come out of it eventually 😉

Really? I've never been to St. Louis, but I've been to Detroit and that place scares the poop out of me

it's per capita crime and detroit is 2-3 times bigger than st.louis... fun little fact: more americans have been killed/murdered in detroit since the start of the iraq war than in iraq itself 😱

and i'd say the neighborhoods look worse in detroit than in baghdad :scared:

Orlando, FL is #25 on the list of dangerous cities.

I would have expected it to be on the list of safest cities, being the home of the "Happiest Place on Earth" and all.

The people at the clinic think I'm the biggest goober because I'm like, "You're taking out stitches? Can I do it? Can I help?" "Oooo can I go run and get those drugs for you then ask you a billion annoying questions about what it does!?" One of my best days there was when I ran an EKG by myself (yeah because you do soo much work putting the little stickers on  )

 Awwww thanks

Awww, that's great!

It'll be here soon enough. 😉
Not soon enough 🙁

and i should really stop quoting myself all the time... :meanie:
I dunno; I think it's super cute when you do that. 😍

There are definitely places in Orlando you do not want to step foot in let alone drive though.

My brother's old apartment complex last year had two people shot. It was during a party with a couple hundred kids. Right now on UCF's campus, a couple of guys wearing masks are throwing girls on the ground and stealing their purses (still haven't been caught and ongoing). Someone with a gun recently came into my mom's workplace building. Every year someone dies on a Disney ride. etc

seems to be detroit's year for being on lists. won the pennant, 2nd (michigan) in the bcs, 2nd in most dangerous. what list will they come up with next?

oh detroit, detwa, da big D. is any urban renewal project big enough?

i think i'm having hot flashes. or the heat in the library is up really high.

I thought hot flashes was something unique to menopausal women.

I'm thinking its the heat in the library considering how cold it must be outside. If it was pretty cold for Florida weather, weather up north must be a bazillion bajillion gazillion times worse.

This picture cracks me up

 There is some show on public access TV - I think it's called "Discovering Detroit." It is SO funny. It makes Detroit look like Vegas or something!

I am already SO excited about the Mich/OSU football game.

So this is my second to last day on chemistry. There were two patients this weekend that I got calls about, both with exactly the same issue. These are folks in the pain management clinic on regular doses of oxycodone. Unfortunately, there is a group of people who fake pain to get oxycodone to sell on the street. So the pain folks test folks on oxycodone, to be sure they're actually taking it.

So I have 2 drug screens that were positive for oxycodone but ALSO positive for hydrocodone. The pain clinic folks sign contracts not to take any other narcotics, etc. So they shouldn't be taking hydrocodone (and they emphatically deny it). Question: Is there any way that the oxycodone can be metabolized in some weird way to show up as hydrocodone? You know how so many of the opiate structures are similar and they all metabolize into each other. I have looked EVERYWHERE. I can't find any evidence that this has happened before, nor anything that says that it can't happen. So I don't know what to do. 🙁 I would feel TERRIBLE if I said that the oxycodone can't be metabolized into hydrocodone if it actually can because these folks might lose their pain relief. 🙁 On the other hand, we do oxycodone tests all the time that don't show up positive for hydrocodone. Ugh.

So, what I'm going to do now, is take a nap. (I just got home. Tired.) Perhaps tonight I will have some brilliant insight.

So am I........ 😡 I have to decide who I hate more so I know who to root for to lose ( I would never cheer for one of those teams :meanie: )

It's going to be the game of the year

Definitely the game of the year. I've been hearing "game of the century" thrown around! Not sure I would go that far yet. But a very big game nonetheless. 😀

And please root for Michigan. 😉

My dream UM/OSU game:

Both teams starters get suspended for the game for some stupid reason (And this is not a stretch for OSU). The result: a boring, horrible game with final score UM 3 OSU 0 or visa versa :meanie:

I'm sure there will be better games than this one in the year. It's only being hyped because it will be 1 vs 2 and not a BCS game.

Game of the Century?

I doubt I'm going to even watch it. I was watching the Texas vs Tech game. Man, I got so used to watching SEC defense. I couldn't believe how much time these QBs had to throw and there was usually an open guy they gave a 5 yard pass to with no one covering him. I think the Mich/OSU game will be a let down for most because of this hype. I'm not expecting much out of it expect a very angry losing team that has zero hopes for BCS title.

Uh oh, somone sounds bitter that the big game doesn't involve an SEC team 😉 The majority of the country (aka the north) will be watching, that's for sure.

Oooh, and a big  (but no song) for Will and his 6,000th post.

Ha, I walked right into it without even knowing.

SEC? What's that? 😀 I've tried watching as much college football this year other than SEC. I honestly cannot get into it. I seriously cannot believe the amount of time these QBs have to make a play. I will be rooting for Michigan, though. I've liked their defense. Defense wins the game.

Big 10 defense has traditionally been really good though.

a Big 10 game is won in the trenches... it might not be the most appealing, but if you have your frontlines working together (on both sides of the ball) you'll win a lot of games

continue not watching Big 10 games... I'll continue not caring about the SEC 🙄

I kind of like the fact that there are academic institutions behind our teams, instead of glorified giant high schools with football teams... (besides vanderbilt)

UF is also a good school. The others, ehhhh

Agree. For example, I can't even remember PSU being known in the past for it's offense. It's always about defense and "linebacker U"

Big 10 has some issues though. Notre Dame needs to stop being such a turd and join the big 10 so there can be a playoff. The fact that Purdue gets away with not playing OSU or UM this year is just unacceptable

the two or three way or even four way ties for the big ten championship are really stupid... but I've heard that because Notre Dame isn't on that above list I put, it won't fit in to the group of schools as well... the Big Ten is also an academic association of sorts too

Depends on what you look for in a school. I personally don't care for any undergraduate school's education. They're all the same to me other than the few that crank out the finance kids that want to go into IB and such (i.e. Wharton). Some schools with good engineering programs for undergraduate are nice, too, but the rest are just plain BS degrees imo.

I get mass e-mails from the UF college of business about their rankings and I honestly couldn't care less. Vanderbilt does have a really nice school, academically. Oh yea, Durden, it was 17 Academic All Americans, not 15. I low-balled you by 2. Er...that didn't come out right.

I'm not familiar with the other SEC school's programs, but I find it odd you say stuff about our schools yet you don't care which MD school you get into because they're all med school at the end of the day. 😕 I've never talked down to anyone that goes to say UCF just because their school is only ~30 years old and isn't established nationally. Not even some of my friends that go to the local community college (btw, I went there, too, and I learned more there than in high school).

You may say UF and other SEC schools are glorified high schools, but football down here in the south (if you've ever been) is big. At least outside of big cities. CJ Spiller, you may have heard about him, went to my friend's high school in Lake Butler, FL (Union County, smallest county in FL). It is 100% just like the movie Varsity Blues and stuff like that. I guess we can't help it if this is what we've grown around and everyones kids like staying around family and goes to the local college.

Edit: Time for me to get back to work. 🙂

to wrap this up... this type of thinking is what bewilders me:

"I would like to build a university which the football team could be proud of."-George L. Cross, former University of Oklahoma president speaking to the state legislature

He must have been on crack when he said that.

does PSU send out automatic secondaries even before you're verified? I'm thinking of adding them to my list and am wondering if I should hurry with that decision

No, I don't think they do auto invites. They are a state school but it's not by any means impossible to get in OOS because the preference isn't that high. Most in staters will take Pitt over PSU if given the chance.

PSU seems like a great school and Hershey is an awesome medical center. The only major downer is the fact that in Hershey it's you, the cows, and the choc. factory....that's pretty much it.
